A while back I bought a T/C New Englander at a pawn shop for 30 bucks. The barrel was shot but the rest of the rifle was in great shape. Been looking for a replacement barrel but they are hard to find in good shape. I was wondering what would be a good drop in replacement barrel for this rifle. Also interested in a shotgun barrel for it. Wondering if someone with some knowledge knows what barrels are compatible with this setup.

Green Mountain made drop ins for years, But lately they have been getting out of the blackpowder market and are harder to find old stock. A lot comes up on the E-b auction site. or try a few sites like stonewall creek, or the regular traditional style sites. some come up on forums, but that is getting more and more rare. there are several manufacturers around that could make one. ill keep an eye open.

try the oregon rifle barrel co. they can make a replacement for you. they also do good work.

Both Bobby Hoyt and Ed Rayl are capable of "freshing out" that bbl. to a larger caliber at a much more attractive price than a new one.

I would try that barrel out before spending any money on it. I have a NE, that I bought used. Bore is pretty rough, but still shoots ok. I use maxi balls. Not tried round ball yet.

Let Bob Hoyt recut the barrel to a twist optimum for .54 round ball. Very accurate and a great hunter.

Depending upon what is wrong, that barrel may be OK to rebore. The TC New Englander, Grey Hawk, High Plains Sporter and Tree Hawk all share the 1" round barrel configuration, so barrels are interchangeable. .50 and .54 NE, GH, and HPS are all 1-48" twist. The TH has the short barrel and quick twist .50cal 1-20". There are both fixed cyl bore and choke tube 12ga barrels out there, but all of these barrels are where you find them....there are usually barrels on ebay from guns being sold "parted out". The last 12ga barrel I saw went for way too much $365!

Also TC made The Black Mountain Magnum in both .54 and .50. They came with a fast twist for conicals and sabots. I got a 50 for my New Englander and am very happy with it. With the money they are getting for the shotgun barrels you ought to buy the replacement rifle barrel and have your old one drilled out for the smoothbore.

My friend has an original TC .54 cal barrel in 1 to 48 inch for sale. It came off of his New Englander I believe. It is in excellent shape and I think he is asking $100 for it.

My .45 rifle is really closer to a .46, having a .458" bore diameter.

Relined, uses standard .45 rifle molds with stamped out 1/2" wads.

Goodcheer, who made that liner? I would love to know where to get .458" bore liners! That would open up lots of possibilities....
