Years ago an old timer around here was a China Marine before WWll. He was Chesty's 1st shirt in Korea. He always said Chesty was a Marine's Marine! Had a few stories to tell. He gave me a set of his chevrons.

I read a book about him a while ago.
They don't make 'em like him anymore.
I always suprised how many "in service" Marines don't know who he was. They know the name, but don't know anything about him.

I drank a beer or 2 with one of the very last marines out of that reservoir.

You would not have lived very long if you said anything derogatory about Chesty.

He also told the story of Chesty marching on top of a ridge there daring ANY north Korean to fire a shot at him.
