I had a question that probably is easy for most of you.
On my last session casting some 9mm in my Lee 6 banger. I started to get what I call a Schmere.
Where the sprue cutter moves across the top of the mold it tends to smear the lead across the top.

So am I cutting to quickly or do I need to make an adjustment?

Probably cutting a little too soon. There is a fine line between too soon and too late. Getting a good rithym is useful.

One of the lubes under the sprue plate helps tremendously.

Your sprue needs to cool longer.. No adjustment needed ... just give it a few more seconds before cutting.

or tap the sprue plate on top of a damp rag.
anyway many of us use a sprue lube on top of the mold to keep the oops from becoming a dang-it when the mold gets galled.

I use the damp rag trick on thesprue before cutting it works great only takes a second or 2 and then cut

I have a damp sponge in like a 3.5"x7" tupperware. I just flip the mould and dab it on the sponge then knock the sprue open on the edge of the worktop.

Agreed your cutting a bit to quickly. I've never used the wet rag trick but seems as though it would work. I usually swap moulds on the hot plate and let the hot one cool back to my desired temerture around 350 degrees while I cast another caliber.

Sprue plate lube, like Bull Plate lube on the top of mold and bottom of sprue plate
will eliminate this.

When I resize the boolits that had the schmere it tends to roll that little bit of extra material over the base. What method or technique do you use to remove it ? I have been using my German made 3 corner deburring tool. It seems to do the job with the least effort.

go with that then.
many use the old stand by of a pocket knife or a thumb nail.

What .... nobody has a special radius cutter on an offset handle ?
The one that will prevent barrel leading and allow the bullet to go 350 FPS faster?
It should also improve you looks and do double duty as a nose hair trimmer

I just shoot them with the nubbin, still come out the barrel, still hit the target.
