I am really impressed with the functionality of the Sub2K carbine after working up some good loads for it. I have a good stash of mags and brass along with a load that is a keeper. What next? I have been thinking that this carbine would be great for home defense and hog hunting with mag capacity and accuracy. I wanted a light, but being cheap....I mean frugal I got to thinking and digging in the junk drawer and came up with some goodies. I found exactly one Weaver ring and a 2 piece Weaver base for God-only-knows what. All I needed was the hardware from Ace and I was in business. I had a Surefire 6P light that was just sitting and wanted to use it for this project. I lined up the layout and drilled the holes.....http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm243/Evansguns/Mobile%20Uploads/20140216_122106_zps7e0c0818.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/Evansguns/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140216_122106_zps7e0c0818.jpg.html)

I then cut a backer plate from a piece of hacksaw blade to avoid "tearout". I really just put it in the vise and beat it till it broke then dressed the edges with a Dremmel wheel.....http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm243/Evansguns/Mobile%20Uploads/20140216_122441_zps4e84620c.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/Evansguns/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140216_122441_zps4e84620c.jpg.html)

Then I drilled the other hole in the blade and ran to Ace and got 68 cents of hardware for the mounting of this base. I dabbed a bit of blue Locktite on the threads and snugged up the nuts.....http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm243/Evansguns/Mobile%20Uploads/20140216_132511_zpsdb763889.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/Evansguns/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140216_132511_zpsdb763889.jpg.html)

It was mounted up and ready to receive the light.....http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm243/Evansguns/Mobile%20Uploads/20140216_130721_zps95a1ff0b.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/Evansguns/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140216_130721_zps95a1ff0b.jpg.html)

I dabbed the screw heads with a permanent black "magic marker" to subdue the zinc coating to blend everything together and mounted the light......http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm243/Evansguns/Mobile%20Uploads/20140216_133705_zps25f56691.jpg (http://s298.photobucket.com/user/Evansguns/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140216_133705_zps25f56691.jpg.html)

The pic makes the light look crooked, but it is not. Also it does cross over a little to the bore axis due to the fore end taper, but I can adjust that with sliding the Surefire up or down in the mount. Over all I am very happy, and when I thumb press the pressure switch the light is directly in front of the front post sight. I actually ended up cutting some length off of the screws as to not interfere with the barrel when I put the handguard back on and ended up not using the 2 lock washers for this project. The actual price for the mount was 48 cents. The ring and base I already had and the 6P light was $30 at the pawnshop I bought the KelTec Sub2K at.

Thanks! It works great. Was "playing" with it a little a while ago and all is good. To add, the Weaver ring I used has one of the thumb screw "tip off" clamps so it is easy on/easy off if need be.

I was thinking the same thing for a quick mount

Isn't it amazing how well you can see the Iron Sights at night with the light on?

I think a light is a must have on one of these guns.

Randy,

It works amazing. I went into the bedroom with all the lights out and just used the Surefire and the front sight stood out so prominently I couldn't miss it. I focused the beam on objects in the room and the sight was perfectly aligned.

And a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a dedicated surefire lighted forearm.

My reasoning for having a light on this gun is that I plan to use it for home defense one day and CANNOT ethically have a means to not properly ID my target, whether it be a wild dog, raccoon or home invader. I have 3 kids and they are definitely NOT the target

Greetings
Very nice ! Being "frugile and do it myself" type that is great.
That has been added to my "project" list for next time up north. Mine is the 40 S&W Glock mag type.
