Who is throwing consistent charges with 700X and what measure are you using?
What variance are you getting?
What variance are you happy with?

I would report using the Lee dipper to throw charges within .5 of a tenth of a grain on a 5 grain load. BvT

I load almost all of my 9mm cast bullet reloads with 4.2 grs 700X. About 1 in 100 cases, it will just through a 1/4 charge. Since I am using a Lee 1000, I can visually see the charge and catch a undercharge. I no longer use 700X for my 38's as I can't see the charge level and I have had squib loads. Bullseye and 231 meter much better for the 38s. I don't know if it is the lee powder measure that is the problem or not.

ive tried lyman rcbs and dillon measures with it and it just doesnt meter that well. that been said it still seems to shoot real well with the inconsistancy you get with it.

Lee Pro Auto disk. Custom drill one of the chambers till you get the load you need. It has to be the "Pro" version with the elastomeric wiper or the flakes will get stuck under the disk. +/- .2 grain for me.

I have a Redding 3BR measure and I use the pistol insert when I'm measuring 700X . I usually weigh the first 3-4 charges of a batch of reloads (5-6 if I'm feeling paranoid) and then about every tenth charge after that as a q/c check. I use a RCBS 10-10 scale and I haven't found any variations in weights. I'm sure there could be some variations in the 9 charges between the ones I weigh but statistically, if there are variations they should show up eventually.
Sinclair International recommends using anti-static dryer sheets to wipe down all of the surfaces of a powder measure that powder will contact and even storing the measure with a dryer sheet. I haven't tried this but I will if my measure starts acting up .

700x sucks for metering but is great compared to 800x! I have switched to hs-6 for handgun now.

I'm assuming the problem with 700X is the flake size. I picked up a 12 pound keg of 800x because the price was too good to pass up and found with my Hornady powder measure that if I use the RIFLE powder drop it works fine. The pistol powder drop has too small of chamber and the flakes get jammed, but the large diameter of the rifle drop works plenty well, within a couple of tenths of a grain for each charge.

I went through a pound of 700-X in .38, .357 and .45 Colt. I found two things: 1. it didn't meter very consistently, charges out of my Lyman 55 varied about +/- 0.2 grains for a 0.4 grain window of variation. 2. That really didn't matter. 700-X is fast and lights very well, hence it is virtually not position sensitive. Even with the realatively "wild" metering, it produced good groups in the above calibers. Better groups than I got with HS-6. I quit 700-X because I prefer Bullseye and bought 8#s of it. Bullseye does everything 700-X can do and meters better. I would shoot 700-X and be happy if 700-X was what I had.

I use a RCBS Little Dandy powder measure for throwing 700X and it works great. The trick is in a good quick, forceful flip of the cylinder knob. Once I get equal force going on each throw, the weights are very repeatable. I do however check all my powder loads done with this measure with a pencil with my thumb and finger touching the top of the case as the pencil reaches the powder. This way is more accurate test than merely a visual one and is almost as fast.

not to break a thread , but what charge are you all throwing on the .357 rounds with 700x , I recently got 4 lbs given to me and have been using it on my .44mag and wish to use it also on my .357 with a 150 LSWC... any help would be appreciated. I have an old IMR sheet and it does not even get close to what the new sheets say; I think the new sheets are under valued so much that it might be in the dangerous range.

i like 5.0gr. with 150 -160 rnfp or swc.
& i use the lee auto disc & get consistent throws,i did file down the side peices until it fit snug on the discs.
let me add that i treat my powder measures with graphite applied on a rag then shook in the measure until the inside is black.

Put the large meter back in and it works better not great just better.
I'll run with it about a 3/4 grain vari.
