Hey everyone I am brand new to casting and to the site, although I have been reloading roughly 1 year now. Due to the shortage going on the only components I have been able to get are the magnum type mostly, and am ready to cast some 357s. Right now my boolits are running about 167 grains from a 158 grain mold. Could anyone let me know if I am on the right path here? Gas checked 167 grain, behind 14-15.5 grains of w296 (lee load data).

I forgot to add, that is jacketed data. As far I I understand that is fine for gc boolits.

I hope others will chime in on this, however, I do not believe you can use data for jacketed bullets for gas checked boolits. I think reduced loads are in order. I would wait for others to post their responses.

From Lyman I read with 170 grain linotype 14.4-15 grains h110, this may be the ticket but other input would also be appreciated.

Using jacketed data for gas checked cast will be safe but the performance may not be satisfactory. (leading or poor accuracy)

In case anyone was wondering I loaded up some of my boolits behind 14.4, 14.6, and 14.8 grains of w296. 6 of each. No leading was found in my barrel. The later 2 loads provided quite a bit of flash in my 6 inch gp100. Accuracy seemed part for my level of skill compared to my load of 3.5 grains hp38 under 158 grains lead. That is about 2 inch circle at 10 yards casually shooting. The hp38 load can get me about 1-2 inches at 25 yards if I do my part. The primers were as follows

The bottom row is least potent, top was the most. Similar primers to factory loads in my 44 magnum...

You can generally expect that you will get more velocity at lower pressure with lead over condom boolits. As long as your alloy can handle the pressure you are good to go. Fit is king - hardness is queen and lube is a duke. They all have to work together to make it work.
