I have seen indicators of a marlin model 1894 that was chambered in 30-30 win. can this be true? it refers to an older "safety" marlin but I never thought that the 94 action was ever long enough for the 30-30 case length.

any help would be vastly appreciated.

Action is way too short. Someone is feeding you BS or just plain bad info.

tis what I thought as well. maybe it is an old 93 that has the stamp in the wrist scrubbed out.

1892 Marlin was small action for .32 rimfire
1894 Marlin was short action for .32-20, .38-40, .44-40
1893 Marlin was long action for .32-40, .38-55, .30-30, etc.

1894 WINCHESTER was .32-40, .38-55, .30-30 etc.

I think I saw the same ad also. If I remember they said early in the ad it was a model 94 then later stated it was a model 36?

Which rifle was first chambered in .30 WCF? My understanding is that the first year Winchester 94's were .32-40.

the winchester was first with the 30WCF. but the marlin had the 1893 just after chambered for the 30-30. I have an old safety model 93 in 38-55 ...[which was Marlins to begin with]... and with the relined barrel it really is a fine rifle. would be glad to be able to bring a sister in 30-30 home in the same action to keep it company. someday maybe.

They were all 30WCF, it was not until Winchester sued Marlin Cartridge Co for stealing the 30WCF name, that Marlin was forced to change the name of their cartridges to Marlin 30-30

and now you know the rest of the story

I have a model 36C, made in 1946, 30-30
looks like a 94 with the square bolt, pistol grip, carbine length

looked at the barrel, stamped 30-30 Cal.

If it helps any, this Marlin 1893 circa 1905 has only "30-30" marked on the top flat of the octagonal barrel just in front of the receiver for its calibre designation. Other barrel markings include patent dates and "Special Smokeless Steel."

yep that is my 38-55 as well ... good looking rifles ... I like tha carry/shootability of mine a lot ... I personally like the takedown capability's of Marlin as opposed to Winchester. I also find the slim ... classy style to be complete with my Marlin as compared to a couple early Winchesters I have had ...built in 1899 and the other one built in 1924 if memory serves. nothing can compare to the ease of cleaning when the bolt comes out so easy when shooting blackpowder.
