Master Caster Motor

Hi Everybody,
I've been reading a lot of great posts on automating master casters, and I am about to start building one myself. My plan is to build one similar to Weiderladertv's on youtube, and I was wondering if anybody has an idea what the specs for the electric drive might be based on the video?

I'm not a motor expert by any means, and I would really appreciate any advice!

I used a much smaller motor on my homemade version.

I was given a box of the motors years ago so the price was right and they have plenty of torque.

Why use a motor, use pneumaitcs it's cheeper to do and a lot easier.

If your running a electric motor to run the air compressor, that motor may just as well run the casting machine instead. Much less noise as well, from the exhausting air.

Your point is valid indeed, if you use a muffler on the exaust ports of the pneumatic the noise is pretty low especially if you run the cylinder at lower PSI's than full tilt. My friend has an automated master caster using pneumatics (and i am building mine right now), his 60 gallon compressor goes on every 4-5 hours to build pressure back up.

Either option isn't a bad choice, motor or pneumatics it just depends on how they want to skin the cat. Personally I think pneumatics are less expensive and easier to operate.

The problem with a motor setup is if a boolit gets stuck in the mold so that the mold can't close.
You have to have some sort of clutch system so the motor doesn't burn up or doesn't break something.

On the Wyman method, its spring return so if it does get jammed it is only spring power

^ now this man knows what he is talking about, Hatch is a WEALTH of information on this topic and I hate to admit some sort of defeat in my personal skills but I'm referring to his knowledge on automating my master caster PERIOD!

I had a Ballisti-Cast machine, it had a "Shear" pin built into the system, just for that reason, in the event something should "Jamb".

The same could easily be incorperated in the drive unit as shown in the first post.

i prefer the Wyman/Hatch KISS automation.....simple and reliable....has worked for me for about 100,000+ bullets of vastly different weights....

I bet I don't have $200 in mine and $60 of that was the mold. That is the entire machine, not just the automation.

You have more in the way of skills than the average man.. My guess is you have spent more in the way of tools too.
