Not sure what I have or what it's worth. It looks to be totally unmolested and original with an excellent bore and small parts marked with an "R".

Bought it with some other items from a guy who had them all under his bed for forty years after he inherited them from his father. He needed me to buy all of them for $1000

With it picked up a Ithaca SxS 12, Enfield Carbine, Remington Game Master, Winchester 62, Remington 870 trapgun, H&R 442 20 GA, Daisy 25 BB gun. All of them look like they came out of a time machine from the 60's.

you did real good. that 1903 Remington is about $600 plus. they were made by Remington under contract with rock island machinery and tooling. while tooling up Remington also worked out short cuts in manufacturing which became the a3.

There are 2 variations of the 1903 Remington.

The first is known simply as M1903 as it is identical to Springfield Armory rifles.

The 2nd variation is known (yes, to collectors and researchers) as M1903(m) or M1903(modified). The process of shortcuts in manufacturing accounted for the differences and this was before the advent of the 03A3.

Most Remington M1903 and M1903(m) went to England as Lend-Lease.

Since rebuilding mixes parts up any Remington M1903 needs to be looked over carefully to determine if it has any (m) parts. One of those (m) parts is the rear sight base. On (m) rifles there are no lightning scallop cuts on each side. Pretty easy thing to spot. The barrel dates can also give a hint.

Below is a Remington M1903 with a (m) rear sight base and a scant stock. It came from CMP via Greece so it was in the inventory of a foreign nation for many years. Most all of the Greek M1903 rifles have a B stamped on the floorplate indicating the spring loaded release latch has been pinned in place so the floor plate won't open. Its an easy to fix issue that involves simply driving the pin out.

If you post the serial number (be brave and post the whole number!) and barrel date I'll do some more looking in Brophy's book, The 1903 Springfield Rifles. Get some good photos & close ups.

Thanks. Included a few more picts. All small parts seems stamped with an "R".
Serial number is 3201297. Barrel date is 7-42 and looks very clean. The symbols on the stock could find were four, all under the forend.

Jeff

You hit the jackpot for sure.
It sounds like quite a stash and well worth twice what you paid - or even more.
Congratulations! I hope you ran right out and bought a lottery ticket too 'cause that was your lucky day!

I have #3336303, Remington 1903 (not A3) ALL R marked, with FJA stamped scant stock. A very, very late 1903. This rifle is also a CMP Greek return but no pinned floorplate. I had originally ordered a high number Springfield, and CMP emailed and said they ran out. The stock is oil soaked, but still in wonderful condition. I think I got lucky on this one, and it's one heck of a good shooter, especially with cast boolits!
