Anyone use this for 9mm or 45acp? A local shop has 3 lbs of this. I have not seen this powder for about 5 years. These are the 2 pistols I load for. But mainly just to plink. So they are loaded lite.

Good powder but not for lite loads. Same as win571. I would look for something faster burning, save powder on each charge that way.

Not that it won't work, I just wouldn't consider it a top choice unless the price was really, really right.

Yah, that was what I was thinking. He has it for 18$/lb.

If anyone is close to me, I will tell ya where it is at. If you want it. He has a bunch of other stuff too, but I need to go get that first.

TB did you ever get the leading ontop of the lands figured out?

What is it good for? I was given 8lbs of it by my mentor for Christmas.
I have probably 6 pounds of HS5. That's a hard one to find data for anymore.

I don't suppose either would work for cast rifle loads?

HS-7 is a BlueDot class, so treat it as such. ... felix

Exactly. Good for upper mid range loads in many handgun cartridges. Good for 1 1/8 Oz loads in 20 guage.

It hasn't been made for several years. I load it in heavy 1 1/2 ounce 12 gauge shells. Never used it in handgun rounds. I need too, though as I am not shooting much heavy shotgun.

I bought a 12 pounder of Win571 a long time ago. I have a bunch left. The only thing I found it good for was the 1 1/2 ounce load in 12 ga. that beau posted about. I tried it in 44 mag. and I got real inconsistant results. Standard deviations were real high and I had a lot of unburnt powder. I think it might work in the 44 mag. with a real heavy boolit loaded hot.

Hornady has a load listed in one of their manuals for 124 gr jacketed and lead. 7th ed. 5.6 gr to 6.4 grs. And 900 to 1050 fps. I have a feeling it is going to like to be ran right at the top. I am going to have to think about this one.

It is really a limited use powder in my opinion. I have an 8 lb keg that has been unopened for about 6 years now.

Have you actually used it for any centerfire rifle applications?
It seems to be one higher n the burn rate chart than blue dot.
For lower end cast loads, would data interchange? Seems like I have some blue dot data somewhere.
I wonder if it'd be positions sensitive and need a filler?
An 8lb jug would make a lot of .308's if it'd work well.

Most folks around here I know of have used it straight-up for 44 mag loads. In a longer rifle case (> 1.5 in.), I would expect too much ignition variation without some sort of compaction. My preference would be the use of plastic shotgun filler. ... felix

Ehh, I hate fooling with fillers when unique works so well. Looks like I have a lifetime supply of 45 acp and 45 Colt powder. No more 45 than I shoot. Lol.

One of the best powders for 38 super!

HS-7 in my testing in '06 cast loads resulted in 'click-bang'. I gave up on it real quick for that use a long time.

In .357 Mag with 158+ gr boolits, it's the cat's meow! Not top end, but a good solid all day shooter that won't beat you up with too heavy recoil.

I got ahold of a keg of it years ago and it took me about 10 years to use it up. WHY? because i never found one instance where it did something that another powder didnt do better. I dont recall ever getting it to produce the best accuracy in any gun i owned. Now ask me about hs6 and ill give you a totaly differnt reply.

When I was shooting semi-heavy loads for 45 colt, I used it exclusively. It was just the right burn rate to keep from double charging by accident.

Now that I have tamed my 45 loads, I just use Unique and keep a keen eye when reloading.

I like HS7 it works great in 38 Special for a 24" carbine. Very accurate and fun loads in a 16" 45Colt lever. Have a few loads for 30/30 and 45/60 that are 1100 to 1200fps. (chronoed). According to 1 Hodgdon manual will actually duplicate factory 25WCF loads with a 86gr bullet going 1450fps. Havent chronoed this one yet. In an 18" 45Auto TC barrel will average 1050fps with a Lee 255gr RNFP, and am still 1.1 grs under max. Yes I like it and use it alot. I also loaded 50 rounds in a 9mm but havent shot them yet. Google HS7 in 9mm will some of the loads they used backed in 80's 90's for bowling pins shoots along with a few others
