Greetings, Comrades!

Dave here broadcasting from behind the Redwood Curtain in das Peoples Republik of Kalifornistan. Gearing up to take my second stab at Reloading. Had a complete Rock Chucker setup about 20 years ago but only loaded about 600 rounds before selling everything due to hard financial times. Now have a new Dillon 550C kit, used Rock Chucker IV and RS single stage presses, F.A.R.T., Giraud Tri-Way Trimmers in 223/308, etc. but need to free up space to build a bench so I can get going!

Have already learned a lot from the CB forums - hope to be able to give back/contribute in the future.

Finally a member... Old shooter from the Houston area. Been through a number of shooting sports as I have lived my life and now shooting mostly NRA Metallic Silhouette in several of its various formats - mainly lever gun classes. I reload everything but rimfire. Glad to be here and wish you all a good day.

Howdy,
I've been LONG time lurker on here, getting educated on the art of casting boolits. Been a reloader of the modern jacketed bullets for a few decades... boolits are way more satisfying. I've been retired from the USMC for a few years now and have more time to dedicate to this new passion.

Happy Monday!
Long time lurker here,
I started loading the j-words, before the internet was a thing, so I spent a lot of time looking at books and reading the instructions
Had a break for all sorts of reasons and was aghast at what people would pay for those j-words
I'd dabbled in casting, but wasn't pleased at the results...until I stumbled into castboolits
Through the many excellent and knowledgeable people here, I've learned a lot...which sort of helped me keep lurking
Thanks!

Hello all!

Maurizio from Rome, Italy.

20 years a Navy brat and 40 years in the Army.

I like plinking and target shooting, but have little/no interest in hunting per se; there is too little Wildlife left in Europe for hunting to be a justifiable pastime any more.

I like open hammer shotguns and old rifles, and big bore handguns.

Else, motorcycle Touring - big bore twins, I have no use for jap bikes that'll redline like banshee screamers..

I am also a Widows Son, the more elegant one in this pic.

Hello!

New here. Pretty new to reloading. About 3 years and have recently been really interested in casting! I have been reading the lyman book of casting, have ordered some stuff and more on the way. I have made the mistake of buying pure lead. Now I'm wondering if I should buy some tin and possibly antimony, or maybe just buy #2 from rotometals to start with and deal with it later. Lots of great information here!

Welcome to the wonderful world of producing your own boolits . Just a suggestion but you can start a thread on the subject in a different form and get a lot of helpful information . This ( Welcome aboard to all members ) form doesn't get as much traffic as some of the other sections so information will come much slower .
A little tip to help the members point you in the right direction - is post details such as cartridge your starting with than let the members slowly work with you to get you pointed in the right direction .
Pure lead is very useful don't be held back by not trying to cast with pure although you probably will need a little tin / or pewter to get good fill out . In low velocity cartridges such as 38 special , 45 acp , even lower velocity easy shooting rifle loads .
Keep in mind there are a few differences in loading jacketed bullets compared to cast boolits .
I'm going to send you a private message , just to point you in the right direction starting a thread where you can get the most out of it .

Hello - Lurker finally registering. I have been reading the threads on this site off and on for years. I have been reloading since 1972 and still keep learning stuff. I like to shoot cast bullets in my handguns and did some casting on my own in the late 1980's - using Lee 6 cavity molds and their tumble lube bullets in 357 and 45 acp. I haven't done any casting since then but still have my Lee bottom pour pot.

I like reloading and shooting. I also am a member of the S&W forum and the Accurate shooters forum, as well as rimfirecentral and probably a few others I have forgot about.

Hello gentlemen and ladies. I’ve been missing in action since around 2015. Thanks cast boolits for keeping me around! Way to many life and age obstacles came from all directions. Retired fully but downsized house, big mistake lol. So now I’m digging under the house to create a bullet shop. One way to help the old ticker, I suppose. Anyways do not watch any of the hgtv tiny houses with wife! it’s not true. When your older you need room. There is no way to down size. My hobbies are expensive and want fit. It’s not that bad, But close! Did I say I’m digging under the house for more room. I’ve finally dug thru 4’ of dirt by hand and I’m down to 8’. So onward I go to digging.,this all leads me to some question. So Richard Corbin retired, is there options for walnut hill swage dies? How about .308 factory jackets? I see Dave has some for sale. Is there someone who maybe bought Richards equipment to take that part of business over? Also being inactive with my equipment Being in non climate controlled building ( has insulation) whats the chances my primers large small rifle cci still In packaging being good? I’m pretty sure it doesn’t get way above 100 degrees summer time, and it’s never ever below freezing here. So just getting caught back up with things and wanted to say hello again to everyone. With any advice I will say thank you in advance.

New member, I started casting about 6 months ago and have found out I do not know enough about it to proceed. I am hoping that some where there is a group casting that I can go and watch. This happened when I first loaded with jacketed bullets. A friend helped me get started and he told me very thing I needed to know, except to lube the cases. He completely forgot that part. My press sat for a long time with a 30-06 case stuck in it. A friend from church gave me the Hornaday DVD and that helped then I went to his house and loaded with him. Ive been on my own for 15-20 years now.

Greeting all!

Just got registered today. Have seen the site a couple times here and there. I started reloaded about 5 years ago havent looked back since. My reloads consist of various handgun loads and a lot of 223, 300AAC, 308, 6.5Creedmoor and then the big ole 50BMG.

I started casting about a year ago as I moved to the next stage of my learning curve. I've had great success casting and powder coating with pistols proj, heavy 300 blackout and even some 223. I thought mine looked great until I saw some pics browsing through some of the threads. Mine looks and shoot good (i've now accepted they just looked decent now), but some of you look like the Lord himself cast them. I'll get there eventually. For now they look decent and group well.

I actually officially registered because I spoke with Brian (BT Sniper) and ordered some of his premium 22 swage dies.

Bottom line, I think I like reloading almost as much as I like shooting. Any free time I have, I'm either doing some sort of reloading activity or picking up brass from my local BLM land shooting spot. I look forward to gleaning wisdom off of you all and hope to pass it along to future new members.

Cheers!
Joseph

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, I have been reloading for a while now and am about to delve into casting. There is a ton of info on here and have learned alot already. This also of course opens up so many new questions I have....
So far I've started by acquiring a lee lead melter and bought the lyman casting book. I plan on starting simple with casting for my hawken 50, would like to do both rb and minnies. Once I get the hang of it I would like to add 405g for the 45-70 and 250g for the colt.

Just what the subject states. New Guy here. Most times when it comes to shooting I can state that I'm no longer a noob, but not with bullet casting. I swore that I'd never get involved in bullet casting but the recent "troubles" with the anarchists/domestic terrorists has dried up what I currently need; #4 buckshot and 7/8 ounce 12 ga slugs. So my solution is to make my own.

I'm waiting on the slug mould to be made and delivered. I have the #4 buckshot mould and am learning. Oh, am I learning!

That's why I'm here; to learn. Right now I'm a sponge soaking everything in.

Thanks for having me.

Hello all,

I am trying again for my introduction. First time almost got the boot for selling too soon. I'm not selling just try to learn and hopefully contribute to your group.

Lifelong outdoors man, hunting, fishing, ..... Most of my reloading experience was as a kid reloading for my father who was big into trap shooting, I was his cheap labor and enjoyed getting to participate. However that was 50 years ago. My experience reloading outside of shotgun is limited to hand loading for my .38 special over the years using a manual Lee hand set. One step at a time, which was fine for me because I really don't shoot that much other than some target practice at home or the range I simply didn’t use that much ammo.

So, long story short. I have acquired an old friends reloading equipment and supplies. He did a lot of long distance rifle shooting as he lived in Montana. Had nice collection of hand guns and rifles (38, 45ACP, 357Mag, 41Mag, 45LC, rifle 30-40, 243 Win, 270 and 300Rem . Of all the collection which he meticulous cared for I now have the reloading gear. This includes
• Bullet molds and related equipment to bullet casting.
• Lots of brass including some already primed and cleaned ready for powder.
• RCBS 2000 progressive rotary press and dies.
• Equal selection of bullets for calibers mentioned.
• Misc. other items, tools, scales, tumbler and media

What I am hoping to get from this group is information to get set up loading the .38’s and 45ACP. That I am sure I will find here just by reading and using all the documentation that came with his collection.

Another thing I am interested in, bringing my fathers home built varmint rifle back to life. It started as a Stevens rolling block, not sure of the barrel but the scope is a J. Unertl. I do know its a wildcat load, .22-3000 Lovell and a good shooter. I have limited cases remaining and hand load when shooting with a rather rude setup. But considering Dad and his buddies were getting close to 3,000 fps and shooting at over 200 yds it's interesting to say the least. Will place a photo when i can. Any .22-3000 shooters out there?

Any help or advise is greatly appreciated.

Silhouette

G'day from Australia. This is my first post. I don't cast anything yet but have just started using casts in my 45-70.
I'm also waiting on delivery of a Winchester 73 44-40 which I will be loading casts for silhouette matches.
I know nothing about casting my own so this is why I joined.

Howdy Ya'll,
New to the forum, was looking for some info on reloading bullet types for a tube mag Henry 357 Mag.
Been shooting since I was a young'n. Dad was a Marine, Korean War and taught my bother and I how to shoot and hunt at a fairly young age.
Weapon safety, care and handling was drilled into our heads at a very young age.
1975 entered the USAF. Went from a promised field of Info Tech into Electronics which actually turned out to be stuffing nukes on B52's. Figured I would get a chance to see the world. Enlisted from Newhall\Saugus CA and was stationed at Riverside, CA. 8-) Did get to TDY to Thailand, Guam and Hawaii though.
Yeah, they put you were they need you.
Since we weren't at war and the military staffs for wartime we had a lot of doing nothing. One day I walked over to the Armory and started hanging out. Within a few weeks I'd head over after roll call and started tearing down and functional checking M16's. I actually had to carry one whenever we were convoying Nuke Clips.

Got out in 1979 and went straight into Aerospace. Worked on a lot of AR15's over the years.
I have too many of my own. Bought the above mentioned Henry and a Bullpup 12 gauge just recently.

My neighbor got me into reloading about 15 years ago. He was an old Army guy. Great fun and a wealth of knowledge. He passed on about 5 years ago. I sure do miss him.
He was big on Dillon presses so when I decided to upgrade from my rotary Lee Press I opted for a Dillon progressive. An XL750.
OMG it's like the small block Chevy of the reloading world. Everybody has neat upgrade stuff for this press.
My lovely wife just shakes her head every time the UPS/FedEx guy brings stuff to the door, which is daily it seems.

Anyway, figured I would introduce myself and gain from some of your knowledge.
See you on the other side!

Hello all! Modoc guy here, and I was told of your forum by a friend. I'm hoping to learn about reloading in general as I'm a noob with that, but not to shooting in general.

I'm sure I'll post a stupid question or two as I learn the ropes and figure out my new Dillon 550C. [smilie=s:

New guy here. Been relocated years but am just getting into the casting. I actually haven’t casted any yet. My custom mold just arrived the other day. I’m going to give it a shot this weekend.

What started this was wanting a subsonic round for a 6.8 SPC in a suppressed SBR. I bought the proper barrel with the correct twist rate but the only 200gr Bullets to be found were made in Australia and only get imported a couple times per year. So I decided to go the cast and powder coated route.

Been gathering supplies and finally about to give it a shot. Been reading a lot on here and figured I may as well sign up and be part of the conversation.

Well I had success on my first try. I think they came out pretty good. Now waiting for my powdercoat to come in. And build the rifle to try them out.

I picked an odd time to start casting. I've been reloading for over 20 years and I've always kept it in the back of my mind that I might try casting. I have a decent collection of COWW that I've found over the years. I was actually able to purchase the rest of what I need and the first boolits will be born soon. I shoot USPSA and Steel Challenge and I figure casting should provide a decent cost savings and hopefully some enjoyment.

New member here. Been casting for a long time 50+ years. First experience was when I was 18 years old and got acquainted with a gentleman who was FFL Holder involved in al aspects of shooting. I was at his Welding shop and he needed some 45 bullets. I volunteered to cast them. It was a 6 cavity H&G 68. What a first experience. Been hooked every since, and the rest is history.

Guess this is where newbies introduce themselves. I've been lurking here for a long time and have spent countless hours searching through the mountains of info available here and appreciate the information and enterainment derived from it all. I have been reloading since 1975 and started casting shortly after but never at a volume rate like many on here so just a few hundred of this or that when needed. I lack the space to keep a permanent casting set up and have kept gear and tools at minimum. I load for 16 cartridges from .222 to 45-70 and cast for all except 22 and 6mm. Have two old Lee furnaces 10# and 20# and a Lyman 450 and enough ww, pb and monotype letters to keep the 18 or so molds going for awhile. Having recently retired I expect to be doing more casting and shooting (primer supply withstanding) so thought it was a good time to join.

Hi everyone. I’ve been a frequent lurker for awhile, finding great information when I’m researching something boolit related. I’ve been reloading for a few years now, moving from jacketed and plated to lubed lead, and finally buying as-cast and doing my own powder coating and sizing. I have wanted to take the next logical step to casting for at least a year, but with the pandemic and difficulty in getting components, I kept putting it off but still looking for a good buy on used equipment. Anyway I finally found a pretty good startup lot of equipment and lead for a decent price. I’ve got some work to do in my shop area and I plan on doing a lot of reading before I get started, but I’m almost there.

I’d like to add that a bunch of guys over at my regular forum, S&W, helped convince me to join. I’m sure they are all on here too, so thanks guys.

Morning all,

Long time reader/lurker of the boards, finally decided to register and participate. Rather than just reading since I have found myself with an abundance of time on my hands since I got busted up in a bad hit&run auto accident April of last year and I’m sadly no longer able to work.
My interests in the firearms spectrum are let’s say diverse lol Pretty much anything weird, obscure guns&rounds, ranging from vintage military snipers/DM rifles to building, fixing, tinkering to wildcats and single shot breachloaders, rolling, falling, swinging, tippers. Had to sadly sell pretty much all my guns to keep us afloat during the pandemic last year when I found myself out of work with a left femur broken plumb off at the knee and at the hip(femoral head) but we managed to keep afloat, welcomed our 4th daughter October 8 2020. I’ve found myself itching to do some tinkering and shooting with my girls so I figured I’d finally register,be part of the community and might even come across some Stevens 44/44 1/2 parts so we can do some tinkering and teach my kids a little bit.

Anywho, thanks for having us and thank you for this wonderful community.

Hello. I have been searching for information on casting balls, buck shot and slugs. Luckily, I found this sight! I hope to learn and contribute if possible.
I enjoy all aspects of firearms. My wife and I shoot flintlocks, rimfire, centerfire and air rifle. We are in a small town in Utah, so no formal groups. I am just recovering after fighting cancer for 5 years, so I move SLOW and cannot bend or twist, limiting what I can do. Thankfully I can reload and shoot off hand or from the bench.
Casting lead is one area I have not explored yet, so I would like to get a good setup with as much quality information as possible, so success is more likely.
I started working on my firearms about 25 years ago and have take gunsmithing and blacksmithing classes. I have a manual mill, lathe & forge with some metallurgy knowledge.
I am looking forward to reading and learning on here. I would also like to purchase the correct items through users help.

Greetings to all the fine fellows here. I’m a new caster. I started handloading a year and a half ago and it didn’t take long to get bitten by the casting bug. I am casting .22 caliber (for 22 Hornet, currently), 45-70, and just recently started 9mm. Just started some Christmas time off and looking forward to two projects: building a reloading bench, and working up a good collar button boolit load for my 45-70. I got an MP Molds 153-grain collar button 4-cavity.

Once I get the loading bench built, going to set up a Lee turret press I’ve had in the closet for a month or so. Then my Lee hand press I’ve been using so far can move to being my backup/range press. Glad to have found this site where I’ve already spent many hours reading.

Out to the garage to sort some wheel weights...

Greetings from Nebraska. I've been reloading for a while and am just now getting into casting my own boolits. Going to start with .45 and 12 gauge slugs, and if all goes well 38, 9mm and 300 blackout loads next. I have a couple hundred pounds of lead and will be learning to PC at the same time. Finally gathered my last "needs" and will try to melt lead this weekend. I'm sure I will have a ton of questions but I've been searching the forums and finding answers to most of them so far. I'll just go ahead and apologize now for asking noobie questions that are probably answered somewhere in the forum.

Welcome gentlemen! We are glad you are here. I started as a lurker too, then some cruel friend dropped 8 moulds and a 10 lb seco pot on my desk one morning and said "you want these?" Kind of like "Reloading will save you money". All I can suggest is to read the stickies and ask questions. There are no dumb questions asked here, just ones that have probably been asked in the past. You will get straight answers or links that direct you to previous threads to get the answers. Read the rules too as there are some important ones that can affect how you use the site for the first 30 days and the importance of posting 30 meaningful posts. Your posts here earned you your first so you are on your way.

Happy new year.

Not new here, but just dropped it for a good long while. I'd check in from time to time to see how one member in particular was doing. This past Christmas I wanted to buy the son a shotgun and the wife said "You don't take the kids shooting with what they already have", so I guess I'm starting back to reloading and taking the kids shooting. She has a valid point, so I guess it's time to start feeding these other projects that I never really started with. Great time to do it huh?

I cast my first batch of 9mm hps recently, loaded, test fired, chronographed, and tested in ballistics gel. I wasn't happy with the expansion (too hard a lead). I have so much to learn and so I am here. I hope to be helpful to others.

Hello folks from WNC. My reloading journey started with 9MM Makarov back in 97. Added a few other handgun Cal then shotgun. A buddy had a garage and I aquired several buckets of WWs, and grabbed any other lead I found. A few years ago I build my 300 AAC and dove into the idea of casting. We had the upheaval of life interfer with my reloading and casting progress, but kept picking up supplies. I have cast and PC a few hundred now, 22Cal in 55Gr and 30 cal in 220Gr for the BLKOUT. 2 other buddies have reloaded both and complimented me on them. I only had the chance to load a few for the 300. I hope to have more time now I'm retired.

The other thing is that many of your questions may have been answered but still there is no dumb question here. Just ask away and you will get an answer or a link to where there is discussion that answers it for you. If you have any technical questions ask any Moderator and we will help. Over the next 30 days participate in the discussions with meaningful posts and you will the have reached the magical post count of 30 and will have full access to the site. FYI, posts in the Pit or S&S do not count towards the 30. One way to build.posts is to start a thread about your 300 ACC build and respond to the posts that it will generate with detailed answers.

I’ve been casting round balls for cap ‘n ball pistols for years. Now I’m getting into casting bullets for revolvers… bought a rifle mold an some gas checks… recently started scrounging pewter… man, this hobby is one rabbit hole after another!

At this point I post very sparingly, as I don’t have much knowledge that isn’t already common knowledge. Incredible knowledge base on this site! I’ve grabbed a few bargains in the Swappin & Sellin section, as well. [smilie=1:

I have been snooping for a while but joined the other day after I finally got my first single stage press. Funny story as I was looking for one a friend told me about the deal that I got, after he brought everything to me he said Lois wanted to make sure you got what you needed. Well Lois was our Sceretary who retired four years ago, the press belonged to her husband who died of cancer last year, I had no idea she was selling these things. Sorry to ramble, I've been shooting since I was around 8 yrs ols, so 1968. I love guns, don't hunt anymore, just like to shoot and compete. I can't wait to glean all that I can on here. Bob

Hi Guys,

I'm not exactly new, but I've been away for quite awhile.

My dad passed away last year. An aneurysm in his aorta which we didn't know about. My Mom had two of them in hers, which is a whole 'nother story. I'll just say 2021 sucked badly as it was.

Anyway, he left my two brothers and I a multitude of firearms and other supplies. Easily tripled my collection. I'm currently holding several score of different bullet molds. For the most part, Dad mostly shot cast bullets, apart from things like his .22-250 and the like. I wound up with a very nice 1943 Inland M1 Carbine along with tons of ammunition. Yep, you guessed it -- mostly cast bullets. This particular rifle pretty much eats them for breakfast. I've been shooting most of his stuff just for the excuse to get everything cleaned and oiled.

The bros and I already had one bullet casting party at one of their houses. Did lots of .458s there. Both brothers own a .458 SOCOM and one of them has Dad's .458 Win Mag. I did a lot of .401s myself, having one of his .41 Long Colt revolvers as well as a Winchester model 1910, chambered in the long forgotten .401 WSL.

I figured I'd start dropping by to R&D stuff again.

Welcome aboard sir. There is plenty of subjects to research on most things casting and loading. The PC info alone will get you started and keep you entertained for many days.

Hi all, another lurker… just registered. Just fired off some rounds in a 1873 French Ordnance revolver and I am hooked. Dug out my old 74/80 French Gras in 11x59 and can’t wait to feed her some handloads.. Learned a lot by lurking, hope I won’t be too much of a pest asking you all to share some knowledge if I need some help!!! Glad to be here!!!

Welcome Clete,

If you have lurked here long you know there are no dumb questions. If you don't get an answer you'll probably get a link to a thread with the answer and more. Be sure to read the rules and just enjoy the trip.

Howdy y'all! I just purchased a Remington Army 1858 replica from Pietta, and I was on another site (HVAC-talk) and was telling my friends there about my new pistol. A fellow named Filthy is also on that site and he turned me on to this place as I've never loaded black powder before. After about a week of figuring out what I was doing wrong, I just now got everything straightened out. This place seems to be the Bible when it comes to reloading and casting bullets. Thank y'all for letting me bend your ear a little bit... I am a veteran, retired refrigeration mechanic. Was in the army (6/9 field artillery) in the '70s. I also enjoy ham radio (W4NMT) I'm looking forward to learning more about casting bullets. Thanks in advance. Looks like a great site.

Please spank me if I'm posting in the wrong area.
As I mentioned earlier, I am a newbie to black powder, and ordered some number 10 percussion caps from an online dealer. This was almost 2 weeks ago. They have my credit card information. The last that I heard from them about a week ago was that my order was" in processing". I have several requests for updates on the progress of my order and 4 days ago I was told it was" in processing". I don't want to bad mouth anybody without them here to defend themselves, as I realize stuff happens, but I'm beginning to get concerned at the lack of communications. Should I be?

New to the CB site. Been around on various other places on social media going all the way back to Myspace. I still maintain a presence on Facebook since it helps me rehome foster kitties when I was fostering for a couple city owned animal shelters. If it wasn't for the possibility that I might foster again, I would get off of FB probably. LOL I hung out on Gun and Game forum for a long time, but after their left leaning ownership took control, there was much less of interest for me over there. I was "ChaZam" on Gun & Game also. I hang out on Gab some. Interested in lots of different firearms and am currently rounding up parts and pieces to assemble some AR style firearms. I also have procured a Lee Cast Turret press, some dies, other reloading tools, some components, a tumbler, etc and intend to get back into reloading a few calibers after about a 40 year break. I have firearms in 22LR, 22WMR, 380 ACP, 9x19, 10MM, 357 Magnum, 41 Magnum, 45 Colt, 5.56 x 45 NATO, 223 Wylde, 224 Valkyrie, 6.5 Crendel, 6.5 Creedmoor, 28 Gauge, 12 Gauge, 8 MM Mauser, 7.62 x 54R, and probably some more I cannot think of offhand. LOL Hopefully I can gain some knowledge from a few CB regulars.

Good morning to all;

I am a 5th generation Floridian, NRA Life member, participated in 4 position matches in the Explorer scouts, 9th bar sharpshooter. Later I became a trapshooter. Went to the Grand American. About 200,000 registered shells. I have been through a long list of ranges of ranges, joined, enjoyed and sold out from under. County promised a public range for 40 years, we now have that.

I have shot almost anything that can be put to the shoulder or hand. Traveled over a large portion of the world.

Thanks to all for the range of knowledge expressed here.

Always store beer in a dark cool place.

Welcome aboard Plugs and muffs. Lots of knowledge here but if you can't find an answer to a question just ask, someone will have an answer or direct you to it. There are no dumb questions ask here.

I would add on the beer advice, .... away from the neighbors.

Hey all,

Thank you for approving the membership.
New to CB and hope to learn a bit... especially in the dark art of casting and older powder cartridges.
My main set up has been LR target / hunting, my cartridges list as it stands; 22LR / .303 / 8x57js / 7.5x55 Swiss / 6.5x55se / .308 win / 7mm RM / 7mm RUM / .300PRC / .375HH / 12Ga / (with the newest acquisition being the reason for joining) .45.70govt [Pedersoli "John Bodine" RB 30"]...

I live in Australia, so there is a fair wait for the permit approvals, but no doubt there will be questions that spring to mind.
Cheers all

Hello everyone, my name is Dan.
I'm not new to shootin, but definitely new to casting. New(er) to reloading, despite having done some in years past. Please consider my skillset as "green" as I now venture into the realm of not just reloading, but also casting and coating.

Currently, I live in the greater Los Angeles area, deep in Commiefornia(but certainly don't vote blue ;-)!)
Born and raised here, maybe not for much longer... I have my own small business and remaining in California still has some benefits that outweigh the drawbacks(which are only increasing, sadly).

I'll be asking questions as I can in the various places and discussions, but I really enjoy networking with people, so if anyone locally(San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange counties) would like to show a greenhorn some knowledge, I'd be happy to learn whatever is willing to be taught. I'm an eager beaver to learning, so while my questions might seem numerous to some, it comes from a place of keen interest

I look forward to contributing as I can, but soaking in some new knowledge from what I can read here.

blessings,
Dan

Hello folks! New guy here... I am a retired engineer and have been shooting since my Dad gave me a .22 Stevens bolt action when I was 6 years old. I love 1911s and BHPs as well as long guns. I have been reloading since the late 70's and just recently moved from my Rockchucker to a Dillon 750. One thing I have never done is any boolit casting! Looking forward to all the knowledge on this forum! Danny

Greetings to All,
Very long time lurker here. Finally got off my butt and registered. So, kind of old/new stock.
About me - Located in the upstate of SC, heavily involved in my club (Belton) as a match director, board member, and related activities. Also heavily involved in our state high-power rifle association (PSMA).
My primary (some would say consuming) focus is NRA/CMP high power competition. XTC & mid-range prone. DR badge and HM with service rifle. Dabbled a few years with match rifle, back to service nowadays. I'm primarily active on the National Match.com forum.
Also, deep into small bore prone nowadays. Probably one of the most demanding disciplines I have ever shot. Wish I started it sooner.

What about casting?
Yes, I cast. I started many moons ago in hi-skool under the tutelage of my shop teacher. It came with the basics of reloading. Back then it was just for pistol. Lots and lots of 38 wadcutters. Back then we got extra credit in class for processing his brass and casting bullets. Good times.
Fast forward to the modern era...I mainly cast for rifle, specifically 30 cals (M1 and 1903A3's). That is actually what brought me to this site many years ago. Trying to find a cast load that would work reliably in an M1...well I found it! The Bob-S load was the answer...still is the answer today.
323348

In conclusion, Over the years that I have lurked here. This site and its contributors have been invaluable to me. Lots of useful information. But lurking is ok for passive information gathering, but sometimes you got to get out and get active...and interact with folks. So here I am...

Hey everyone!

New here and new to casting. I've been buying and shooting more old war rifles lately and I'm finally getting around to casting bullets for them.

I appreciate the info I've found while lurking over the past few weeks and I'm sure I'll be reading plenty more as I start casting!

Just wanted to stop by a say hi to all of y’all. Long time lurker who finally decided to really start reloading. I’ve been target shooting and hunting all of my life, but never really got into reloading on my own. My best friend and I growing up split the cost for a rock chucker setup for our .308s and kept it in his workshop, but eventually I moved away and he kept the reloading setup since he was using it more than me and had the shop already setup for it. I would still have him reload some for me over the decades but I never really got into reloading myself. Now I’m finally going to get my own setup going, mostly planning on .38 special to start, then moving into various milsurp calibers, especially 303 and 6.5 Swede. I’m not quite ready to jump into casting myself, but maybe I will in the future. Thankfully I’ve had enough false starts with reloading over the years that I already have a little stash of various powders and primers from back when they were cheaper.

Checking in from SE Wisconsin. I used to shoot and reload a lot when I was younger but spending time with my wife and kids became the priority. I built a lifetime of amazing memories and now the kids are adults I am starting to rediscover some of my old hobbies. Want to get in a bunch of reloading and shooting before the next big milestone in life... grandkids.

I currently reload on a MEC 9000 for trap and sporting clays and will be picking up a Dillon XL650 soon for handguns and rifles. I figured I should find a reloading forum and dig through old posts for tribal knowledge. This looks like a great place to start!

I I I I say sooonnn! Welcome aboard.

You may even pick up the dirty habit of casting too from this place. It happened to me. I started looking and haven't shot a jacketed bullet, unless hunting elk, since 2012. Everything from 17HH to 50AE gets cast.

Ask questions, share your knowledge, or just read the Stickies. Or check out the Tumblweeds saga stories by our late and great member Boza in Humor and Off topic.
