How well does the 14" twist of the .35 Remington T/C Encore handle boolits in the 150 to 220 grain range? Normally, I would prefer a 16" twist for such boolits and was wondering if there would be any practical difference in accuracy between the two twists given the same maximum loads.

Te 14 twist should give good results with those bullets and better results with 250 and heavier bullets.

I played around with a dozen different calibers in my contender and ended up with one barrel as being absolutely out standing ,the super 14 in 35 Rem.
This barrel has NOT found a bullet / load combination it does not like. I keep the pressure/ velocity up near the top of the scale . Plain base cast pistol projectiles shoot great out to 100. My range only goes 100. 150 gr jacket soft point rifle projectiles at around 2000 ft/ sec turn small rocks to powder . Two deer hit with this load dropped at point of impact. Yes I know 2000 ft/sec is a little warm for a 14 in barrel, but I just love it. It requires copious amounts of Reloader 7. Also... all loads were with magnum primers to assure ignition in the cold. I tried the super 16 tube and quickly sent it back to T-C as being near worthless. All it did well was make empty brass out of perfectly good ammo.

sagamore-one,

I'm only interested in cast boolits between 150 and 220 grains. What was the difference between the 14" long T/C barrel and the 16" long T/C barrel? Did they have different rates of twist? All the .35 caliber barrels currently available through Midway have a 14" rate of twist. I have a 16" twist 336 that shoots satisfactorily and a 12" Ruger Hawkeye that is a headache past about 1900 fps when both are shooting SAECO #352 at approx. BHN 14. The 14" twist should be OK for the 250+ grain boolits but I would like to shoot lighter boolits accurately too (with the same barrel).

35 REM 1:14 is what t/c states for the 35 rem

My .35 Rem rebarreled M91 Mauser has a 14" twist 26" Shilen barrel on it. I've shot 358156s up to 2500 fps (128,645 RPM) with pretty decent accuracy and 215 gr 30-200-FNs to 2400 fps. I consider the 14" twist to be the better for the .35 Rem. The 16" twist might be better if mostly 125-160 gr bullets were used and one wanted to push velocities up into the 2500 fps+ range. I don't so I find 37 gr of 4895 to give 100% loading density under the 214 gr 35-200-FN RCBS bullet with a velocity of 2122 fps and excellent accuracy (that is my definition of "efficiency"). I would be hard pressed to find a deer or hog that could stand up to that load.
