I want a RN 230 grain for my 1911. RCBS is my choice for molds. I see that the old style 45-225 has no driving band in front of the grease groove where the current mold 45-230 has a band in front of the grease groove. The diameter in front of the driving band is about .448. The old style is like the Lyman 452374. If I seat my bullets out far enough to touch the rifling will it matter as far as accuracy which mold I get? Thanks

Buy the RCBS 45-230CM. Best commercial design IMO.

I belive that the 45-230 is more accurate because of the driving band , saeco also makes both of there 225 gr rn #456 & 457 with a driving band. the lyman 452374 is a older designe and duplicates the profile of a 230 gr FMJ bullet.
When loading the 45-230 if you can seat the bullet out far enough to just touch the rifleing and still function reliably that is your goal and should shoot the best groups .
You may exceed col specs for the rn designes with no driving band if trying to touch the rifleing?

Yes bobthenailer you are correct. I can not touch the rifling without exceeding OAL. labop
