Today I broke out an old one, an IDEAL 356402.

At one time I read that Lyman would occasionally sell molds that were " 2nd's ". This one must be one of those. The nose looks like a chip was spun around in it , cutting a very shallow groove in the nose. I've shot bullets from this mold before , it doesn't seem to affect the performance of the bullet . It does affect the appearance of the bullet, but as long as it doesn't affect the performance it is a non-issue with me.

The mold cast large ( as many of the old IDEALs will ). It cast at .360". I'm sizing to .3585" and lubing with Ben's Red.

This one has what looks like a crimp groove on the leading edge of the drive band ( that is what I use it for anyway.) I don't see too many examples of the 402' that have this feature.

It is a triple duty mold, works in 9 mm ( sized to 356 or 357 " ) , 38 Spec., and 357 Mag ( sized 3585 " ).

That mold is my favorite for the 9mm. My mold doesn't have either of the custom features yours has, but it still works ok.

The -402 is about as standard a boolit for 9mm's as there is. It's what I use in my Mag 9.
