This is a load in my Rem 788 .222 that I had tested out last summer. I wanted to check it again to see if I got the same results. I did.

96617

On the bottom left is a 50 yd 5 shot group with a NOE 70 gr. boolit on 5.7 gr. reddot and Rem 5 1/2 spp. I am guessing it is around 1700 fps or so out of a 1:14" twist barrel. The target shows no sign of tipping or in-stability.

Of course.........at 100 yards the group has opened up to 1 1/2" and the boolit holes are mostly round.

Just goes to show you never know what will happen until you try it. The target never lies.

That's a tight group for a heavy .22 with that slow of a twist. You got a secret to share?

The secret is "Unless it creates an unsafe condition go ahead and try it. Your gun may like it."

Of course there are many other secrets that also work.

In cast boolits forum in a thread about a 9' twist savage .223 one of the responses was from Bullshop stating he got fine accuracy from the NOE 70 gr .22 boolit from subsonic and on up with, I believe, a 9 twist. So it may not be a fluke.

There is only one group so I am unsure of what the "they" is you speak of. The 100 yard group is not shown and is is strung horizontaly. The stringing in both cases is due to a typical 788 trigger that is over 5 lbs and a loose fitting wool jacket. Trying to get a good trigger pull and maintain consistent stock pressure was a problem the whole morning. My point was that sometimes guns and loads dont always follow the rules.

I dont know why this combo works but it has evey time I have tried it. The same boolit in my 1:12" ar wont hit a square foot at 100 yds. Go figure.

I was thinking you were showing 2 different groups shot on the same target...

Nope, them other holes were from experiments gone bad.
