The base pin on my SS 44 Mag Ruger Super Blackhawk appears to be getting worn out. It's easy to slide out, but becoming increasingly more difficult to put back in. Midway has what appears to be factory replacements, but out of stock. I looked around online some more and saw that Belt Mountain has some nice looking replacement pins. Anyone have any experience with these? Some have a set screw some don't, which do I want? Any other recommendations? Thanks.

I have the Belt Mountain locking base pin in my. 44 Magnum.

Jn my. 45 Colt/ACP convertible and. 357 Mag. you do not need the setscrew, but it does no harm.

Belt Mountain has a tremendous reputation.

If your not seeing a wear ring on your current pin its not worn out. It would have to have quite a groove worn in it to be worn out.
More than likely your locking latch just needs tightened up. Just hold the receiving end (femal) and tighten the male end.
That should clear up the problem with putting the pin back in.

I had this problem on a 45 convertable. The latch pin in front of the cylinder is probably loose. I had to stretch the spring on mine a little bit too.

Pretty common with the SBH, need to lube the pin and hole with STP, nothing else prevents wear better.
Just turn the cylinder a tad as you install the pin. Mine has exceeded 72,000 heavy loads and uncountable light loads with no wear.
If you go to Belt Mountain, don't fit it too tight or you will lose accuracy. Movement should not be felt side to side but the pin should slide in smoothly. They are good but normally not needed.

The napa here still carries stp ... but it is in a pull tab can
Not a screw top like i still have so you will have to have some patience
To pour it into another container .

I still use stp on my lube pad as well .... about 5 drops year wether it needs it or not
