View Full Version : Probably a stupid question, but...

I've found really the only stupid question is one that goes unasked. I think I've read, I'll not swear to it at this point, that pressure casting is not good for aluminum molds. I've been looking for information on it, but my searches have turned up empty. I'm sure it's buried somewhere on the site, if anyone knows or has a link, of appreciate the information.

Thanks,

Sully

It's the first I have ever heard of it. I couldn't imagine the very low Psi. involved in casting could ever hurt any mold. I have a ton of aluminum molds, and have never succeeded in damaging one yet.

Must have been a figment of my imagination. It didn't make sense to me either. I wish I could remember where I read it.

Wherever it was I bet chapter 2 was titled: "Lead bullets will blow up your Glock" :)

I've only done it iron/steel moulds but...if you find the guy who wrote that tell him it'll be OK as long as all the vent lines are clear, otherwise he'll need a pressure relief spring for his sprue plate. lol.
