Found a box of ammo for my 38 Iver johnson today.Old time gunshop with little left on shelves, Payed $10.00 for 50rds, also saw 2 old winchester 38 special boxes with brass, asked how much and he told me no charge you can have them.I might go back next week and take another look for more stuff. Shot a few and they hit a paper plate at 5yds. Not a gun I would count on to save my life in a shootout:Fire:

but you will have some great brass to reload ;-)

Interesting that they seem to have a very distinct flat point on them, like the old .38 Colt New Police loads. Can't go wrong at that price!

Since I acquired a pre-war Colts bankers special over a year ago, I have discovered that 38S&W is not so easy to come by. If I find a box of factory Win. or Remington, the price is usually $35 for 50 and many of the these are 20 years old or older factory stock. I have about 5 boxes now so I am good. Your empties are worth saving even if you don't reload.

They're the same, except for the flat nose. Colt and Ruger have one little quirk, neither company will put S&Ws name on anything they make. A good example is the 40 S&W cartridge. Both companies mark their guns "40 Auto". Colt says 38 Colt New Police. Ruger calls it "380 rimmed". I really can't say that I blame them.

The Ruger. 380 Rimmed were contract guns made for police in India and Northern Ireland. A few also went o London Metropolitan Police and the Hong Kong police. The export guns are valuable collector items.

Another name is the 380/200 British. Used to have a Webley Mk IV that I reloaded for in Germany in 90'.
