Redding makes a cutoff die to make the make the Blackout out of 223's. All you do is run the case into the die and swipe off the top with a saw. It wasn't listed by any dealer last year when I got mine direct from the factory. It's quick and it works. All you need to do then is a final trim.

Lee has a quick trim die set that requires a die body for each case you want to trim but has one cutter on a handle. The less expensive cutter-handle just trims flush but the slightly more expensive one can be set up to trim and chamfer - in and out - both. When the first bodies came out the Blackout body wasn't on the list but it is now. It is in this year's catalog (has a picture of the statue of liberty on the front. The body is Lee number is #90689 - I just got one from Titan today in the mail. The die body has an O ring on the inside to keep the case from spinning when trimming. I haven't tried this one yet but the ones I've used worked fine.

I have a DMS upper and it seems to like the case trimmed to less (shorter than ) maximum. If trimmed to max the bolt closes and the hammer drops but no primer strike. Trim shorter than max and no problem.

I use the jig made by a member here to trim and create my 300 BLK brass.

Then I do a final trim up to exact length with my regular RCBS case trimmer. Works great for me.

I also use the jig and cutoff saw. Little crow gunworks Worlds Finest Trimmer chucked in drill makes quick work of them after forming. I trim to 1.358 and only use US brass.

On the Lee Quick Trim set be sure and follow the directions- the case has to have lube on it or you will shred the o-ring (available locally). I also recommend the Little Crow trimmer.

I have been thinking of ordering the Redding trim die and you may be able to answer a question for me. How close to the trim to length does the Redding die get? I'm guessing the brass still needs FL sizing and trimming to complete the finished brass. It has to be better than what I am currently doing. Thanks.

I also use the jig from vonzep and the Harbor Freight cut-off saw. I do a quick deburr after using the cut-off saw and before running them through the forming die. I don't want brass shavings smeared on the die wall. Then spray lube, size/form, trim to final length, and a final deburr/chamfer of the case mouth and I'm done. I wish I could anneal but I'm not setup to do so.

We process a lot of 556 to 300BLK and we use the HF cut-off saw with decent results. I have tried to trim all the way with My Dillon RT 1200 but it gets too hot and have to let it cool every 300 cases or so.
