After Bullshop Jr. Bragging on his Rossi 92, I started thinking I might like one.
All the barrel problems I've read about got me to thinking, if I got a used .44 at a reasonable price and it turned out to be a dog, what about a new bbl in the b&d?

From reading about the round, it looks like a 16" bbl could launch a 180 gr boolit around 2,000fps or so. Sounds like it would be a cool little carbine, and should feed very slick.
Any thoughts from the experts?

I am not an expert, but I found one on the internet . . .

It has very short neck and this is not ideal for use with cast bullets. Power is down compared to a 35 Rem...

Get a 45 barrel and make it a 45 colt 250 gr at 1600 fps

Or a 475 barrel and a 400gr at....

Yeah, after looking at the cartridge a little longer, it looks like lots of lead would be down in the powder.
Oh well, not my first dumb idea.

Good morning
Not a dumb idea.. just one that needed to be refined into reality.
Now think about taking a 1.4 inch .475 cartridge and necking it down to something still in the caliber .40's. Like a caliber .410. That would come right close to a .414 Supermag yet in a 92 platform. I have a 414 SM in a 336 and that is a fun combo but the 336 is not a handy light weight model 92. Also have a .410-444 (.412 JES) in a 336 and that is an exteme caliber .410 in a levergun. But again not a handy little model 92.
I should not start thinking of another caliber .41 levergun project. But that would be a hum-dinger of a pig gun in a small (so easy to carry), light weight (oh my bony 150 pound shoulder), lever flipper suprime.

Groo here
The 41gnr [aka 44mag to 41 ] would be great. A modern 38-40 that feeds gooood.
Buffalobore says they get 2000+ from a lever gun for the 158gr load.

I was at Bain and Davis soon after S & W brought out there 500. They were joking about bringing out a new B &D calibre. As far as I know they have done nothing other than talk.

I really like my rifle in 357 B&D (94 Marlin) and my Encore rifle 24 inch and Encore 12 inch pistol barrel. I have a Ruger Blackhawk in it also but don't shoot it too much (muzzle blast), extraction is very good in the Blackhawk with little problem. The Marlin 94 really likes the 170-180 gr. j word. I am thinking about doing one on a 44 Mag Rossi in the near future.

Steve, do you use cast in the 94?

The 357 B&D would be right on par with a 357 super mag. As mentioned no sense in throwing in the 35 rem here as that is a whole different cat.
If this 44 marlin of mine doesn't come around the B&D has crossed my mind.

I have shot cast in the Encore pistol and rifle barrel before but not enough to be able to tell if they are good performers.
