When my BFR showed up at my FFL, the lady behind the counter said "that's a really big box for a revolver".
I replied, "yes it is".

Most accurate revolver I own. I had a 2-1/2" group at 500 yards with mine and 1" targets at 100 are easy if I can see them.
SR 4759 is the best powder but we have a scare again, they are going to stop making it again.
My loads; ALL USE A FED 155 PRIMER.
300 gr Hornady, 32.5 gr 4759
317 cast, 31 gr
330 cast, 31.5 gr
378 cast, 30 gr
350 & 360 gr cast, 30 gr
325 cast, 31.5 gr
420 cast, 28.5 gr
448 gr cast, 26 gr.
I use a tuft of Dacron to the boolit base.
Do not under load or you can get a failure to ignite.

What is the best size .458 ,.459 .460 ?

9646996470.459". Dimensions have held very accurate with all BFR's I have measured. The 45-70 has .4592" throats and .458" grooves.
These are the 45-70 boolits I have used and another picture using PB boolits from BFR's.
I have been down to less then 3/8" for 5 shots at 50 yards.
The far left group was 10 shots, some vertical from the rest.

Wow that is some great shooting I cant wait to load up some rounds and get to work. My county is backed up on transfers I have to wait a week to put it on my permit.I have a ranch dog 350gr gc mold that shoots lights out in my guide gun. Do you think it will shoot well in the BFR? Thanks for the help, JOE

Yes, the gun has the largest range of boolit weights I ever seen.
Never, ever have I shot a 45-70 rifle that will equal it.
Only powder burn rate will affect it because of the shorter barrel.
I don't shoot mine much anymore, just nothing to work on and it is so accurate it is boring. I grab the BFR in .500 JRH most, just can't put it down. Must be the recoil!!!!
You will never part with it and will grow to love the monster.

Is it ok to use rifle primers in it or just stick to magnum pistol, also how do you carry it when hunting Im a lefty and don't see many holsters for them in lefthand. Most of my hunting is done from a tree stand. Thanks JOE

it's a typo. they are discussing a BFR in 45/70. its quite the revolver.
BigFinestRevolver but i think that is the politically correct name

Also Big Frame Revolver. A huge Ruger frame cast by Ruger's Pine Tree facility. But the politically correct thing too.

You can use rifle primers. It is going to be hell finding another powder that works like 4759.
I use a sling on all of my revolvers along with Uncle Mikes shoulder holsters. But I can not find a left hand holster.
A sling will help.

Pics will be nice but I'm really looking forward to a range report. When are you taking that BFR out to let it roar?

The twist is very forgiving at 1 in 14". Recoil is pleasant. Who would think the monster was so great?
Mine will never get sold, have to be crazy. I love that thing like no other. Nobody ever will beat my 2-1/2" group at 500 yards.
I knew I was in trouble with the short 10" barrel for powder, felt stupid, but I got it to work.
MR now shows a shorter barrel, NOT GOOD.

Just got back from range the place was packed, heavy snow has most of it closed. This is the first target at 50yards offhand RD350 gc 30gr sr4759. I bought this gun used on gun broker came with a millet red dot All I did was to load it and shoot, looks like a keeper recoil is less than my srh 44mag! Have pixs not uploading try again later.https://us-mg6.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=2%5f0%5f0%5f1%5f53955%

Yes, Uncle Mikes. I like them.
One thing I do with all guns, ruger and BFR, is change the hammer spring to a Wolff over power, variable at 26#. I don't like the Ruger spring. The BFR has a Ruger spring.

Ill try that spring will this make hammer drop quicker? The gun has a nice feel not as big as I thought it to be. That sr4759 load shoots great. im going to try my guide gun load 350gn RD 39gr 0f 4227 Also 350gn 27gr of 2400 and a bit of Dacron what do you think?

Not so much hammer speed but what impact primers need. Ruger springs take a set and get weak. I had to change the SBH spring every year when I shot IHMSA because groups would go south. Wolff solved it.
Try the other powders and let me know.
