I scored 2 lbs of 4759 today. It was suggested to me that it may be a powder worth trying in my 500 JRH. I know about this powders history and that it will be out of production very soon. I have never used 4759, nor is there any data for 4759 in 500JRH (wildcat).

It has been suggested by others (JR) that "No 100% density load with (4759) fired in the S&W revolver will be near maximum allowable chamber pressure..." This was in reference to the 500 S&W Magnum, the parent case for the 500JRH.

I found on another forum, "I am not 100% certain about this, but I thought Jack told me that sr4759 was the factory powder in the Buffalo Bore 440gr. load."

Any advise or warnings would be appreciated.

I use it in my SW 500 magnum

I am pushing a 350 grain LFP with 18 grains of 4759
Had almost identical results with 20 grains of 4759

Recoil is light.
Clean shooter
Accurate (as a pinker) did not bench rest test. Killed a bunch of dirt clumps.

44man would be a good one to check with. He likes it in the 45/70 pistol and shoots some of the jrh calibers too. I don't know if he has a 500 or uses that powder in it though.

I tried it in my BFR 500jrh with a accurate mold 385 and 440 plain base . Accuracy was so-so .my best results have been with HP38 (231) and the 385 grain bullet. I stay in the 3/4-1 1/4 5 shots at 35 yards. blue dot is my second accuracy load. I cannot get the accuracy out of 296 others have .Jack Huntington told me he had accuracy results with 231 10 grain around 1000 per sec. That's a pretty good thumper with a 440 gr bullet and very easy to shoot. My BFR has the 5 inch barrel I just mounted a ultra dot on it will get to the range when this weather lets up tks KEN

This is a a few shots of my BFR in 500 jrh with the ultra dot scope. All the groups were shot with HP38 and the 385 grain accurate mold. I used a 2-8 weaver for load work but took it off and now waiting to get to the range to sight this scope in . tks KEN

Sorry I do not have access to a chronograph. Jack Huntington shows the 10 grain load at 1000 fps. I will try some groups at 75-100 yards soon as the weather clears up. A few of the guys are showing great accuracy with the 296 and 440 grain bullet. I cannot seem to get the 296 to shoot that well in my gun . Blue dot shoots fair with groups 1-1 1/2 at 35 yards with medium loads. My gun is the 5 inch model and the reports from others have the longer barrel. I also believe I am not in the same class as some of the guys that shoot this cal, their experience with big bore handguns far exceeds mine. I do know this thing is a ball to shoot with light to med loads. I find a get a little weary with 40-50 rds of full house 296 440 grain loads. Its a lot of fun to hand this thing to my grandsons to shoot cans with. I would think 440 grain full house loads would be a little much for deer sized game ,I would also think the 440 1000 -1200 fps would do pretty well tks KEN

I found a reference on shootersforum for 15 grains of 4759 w/ 440 grain. I may start there.
I'm saving my 296 for warmer weather. I got some very strange chrono readings shooting at 10 degrees.
Did well with 2400, but ran out and can't find any more.
Wasn't able to find accuracy with 4227.
Got a pound of 231, thats next on my list.

Thanks, Pal
