Does anyone have any recommendations for a .38 long colt load using cast bullets?

The ballistics of factory loads are closely approximated with a 150-grain round or flat nosed bullet and 2.8. grains of Bullseye, 3.5 grains of W231 or 4 grains.of Unique.

Are you using this ctg. in original .38 l.c. revolver? Be aware these were oversize in groove dia. nominal .360 with chamber mouths on early guns around .375. As per original loadings, soft cast with either heel or hollow base will work best.

Yes, one from April of 1898.

Sounds like a job for Holy Black.

I have used a Hornady Hollow base 148 WC loaded to 1.2 inches OAL over 2.3 grains Bullseye with fair accuracy. Mine was an 1894 gun.

Check out Old West bullet moulds. They have heeled & hollow-base heeled moulds for this caliber.

2.8 grains bullseye behind a 148 hollow base wadcutter works quite well in my Colt 1901 army. These appear to expand enough to get good enough accuracy to hit a 8 in. steel plate at 25 yards off hand. Lots of fun and mild recoil. I still have a supply of factory HB wadcutters for the once a year I shoot the old gun which will last a lifetime. In fact I don't even use 38 LC brass, just load in 38 special wadcutter brass on a progressive press and I am good to go.

I will likely load with FFFg blackpowder. What particular cast bullet works best with this?
