I have a marlin336 35 rem made in the early 50s. I was looking at moulds for it an I see a rcbs flat nose and a lyman 204 grain rd nose. Both are gas checked. The round nose looks the most apealing to me but looks a little pointy to me for a tube mag. Am I wrong? Will I have to use the flat nose rcbs for the old girl?

I use both along with other boolits in the 158 Gr + range. My 2 35 Rems do favor the RCBS 35-200 though. I do have a Saeco 245 Gr that looks like the RCBS and it shoots good out of my early 50'd 336A Don't worry about the Lyman in you mag tube. I size mine using a flat top punch and it puts a small flat on the boolit nose. Mark

The RCBS is an excellent bullet in the .35 Remington leverguns, as are the Saeco 200 and 245. The Lyman 200 grain RN was made for the .35 Remington, and shoots just fine in them (just like factory ammo RNs do), but I'm with you, I prefer a flat meplat in a tubular magazine.

Looks like I will try the rcbs. Looks like alittle over 60 bucks at midway. I have tried to buy a couple off ebay and have been out bid over new price for used . Might as well buy new and support the reloading economy.

another vote for the rcbs rf design. It not only is one of the most accurate 30 cal bullets ive found but it will also do much better if you decide to hunt large game with the gun.

SLUG THAT BARREL FIRST...the non micros can vary considerably as to their internal dimensions, my experience is limited to only 2 of em, but they were at opposite ends of the spectrum.

I picked up a marlin 336A in 35 Rem while deer hunting in WI this Thanksgiving. It has a 5 digit serial # and a 24" bbl with half mag. the bore is 100%, pristine. Is the 24" bbl rare?

I have never slugged a barrel before is there a kit or what is needed. I live out in the middle of no where and will have to order every thing in.

Go to this site http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/lbt/measuring.htm
and look for the "push through slug kits". He wants $8 for a 20 slug kit, which to me is a bargain. I've used several kits in various sizes for rifles and revolvers with good results. If you can find your way back to his home page, there is more good info on cast boolits and how to make them shoot well.

For slugging barrels I just use a pure lead round ball.Make sure it's bigger than your bore.Gently tap it into the muzzle of your unloaded gun with a hammer or soft faced mallet if you have one. When you are close the crown stop with the hammer and drive the ball the rest of the way with a hardwood dowel rod.

I like the Lyman 200 gr. It shoots just great in my old 336SC. All of the factory loads I know of for the .35 Rem. are round nose and thousands of them are used every year in tube mag. leverguns without problem.

P.S. this is a 50yd group and id typical with this rifle.
Have fun, Chuck

Check midsouthshooterssupply for the moulds. They have Midway way beat on prices. I used the RCBS bullet and IMR 4064 in my .35. CB.

There are no flies on the r/n bullet for deer hunting either. I dropped one this year with the 204 gc cast from w/w and the bullet must have expanded well from the hole it left on the far side. On the neck shot doe I took the bullet smashed the vertebra and left a huge exit wound at 40 yards. I typicaly get groups in the 2-2/12" range at 100 yards from my Model 8 and 81. This is with a full chage load that runs right at 2000 fps. I have loaded the same bullet in the Marlin for a buddy of my dads and he has used it for years with no problems.
