IT'S DONE!

Got the liner in, faced the muzzle, chambered, set the extractor.....Runs perfect! Ejects half way across the room! Just need to drill ant tap the barrel for scope blocks.
I cleaned up all the screws and fire blued them. Not sure what I'm going to do with the scratches on the side of the receiver...Comments??

Let me know what you think about the firing pin strikes. They seem "aggressive"? It goes "bang" but there are no sights currently so not sure about accuracy.

If it isn't a shooter, I found two more barrels in need of bores. One will be a 17HMR or a 17MkII. The other will be put into inventory for future use.

I used a round brass crown lap tool to flare the area around the chamber to fill in the void left by the original chamber. I then used a very small round Swiss file to set the ejector height. Once I had it close, I used the reamer with a tap wrench to clean it up and make it perfect with the chamber.

I counter sunk the muzzle to hide the line around the liner.

As you can see, it has some pretty good scratches in the receiver where someone did not know how these through bolts work. Not sure what can be done about this.

The wood is in great shape!

Now we just need to see how it shoots!

Second the suggestion to leave the 'age marks' on the receiver and just enjoy shooting it. On your firing pin question, as long as it is not piercing the cases, it is good to use; but if you have a second firing pin to try in the rifle, you might stone a slight flat on the nose of the present firing pin, say about a third or half the tip diameter which would spread the strike energy slightly more so the deepest part of the strike would be slightly shallower while still crushing the priming mixture between the two faces of the rim.

Good Job, Well Done,
Best Regards,

Very nice work. Would love to find one to work with, never see any of the 44's here. And I do look, lol.

On my 44s I have set the pin protrusion at .045", no more. And the nose is almost flat, with just a hint of a radius at the edge so it doesn't cut the brass.
