Iv sourced some 62grn boolits to try thru my .222 Weirauch HW60J. The club indoor range has a limit of 1700 fps / 380 ft lb, and gas checks are forbidden, so I getting 100 un checked and 100 checked, Im already downloading .303 boolits using Bullseye so any recommendation for a starting load for the unchecked ? The checked I would use for fox/ rabbits , so also advice on powder please

Can you somehow access the Lyman 4th edition cast bullet hand book?
I am not loading for a 222 at present but am shooting cast boolits in several 22 caliber rifles. With a 1/14" twist I have had good results with quench hardened boolits w/o gas checks up to 2000 fps.
You might look at loads for GC boolits in that velocity range. If your twist is faster you will likely have to reduce velocity somewhat for best accuracy.
The Lyman book should show loads in the velocity range acceptable for your indoor range at about 1300 to 1800 fps.
If you are unable to find anything I can go through my old notes on the 222 and see what I have.

I have a Remington 600 in 222 and have been loading 6 grs. of Unigue with the RCBS 55 gr. fp bullet and am happy with that load but my supply of Unigue is running pretty low, is anyone using Hodgdon Universal in 222 and with same bullet in 221FB or 223. I have Encore barrels in these calibers and with 22LR so hard to come by these will probably be my new rimfires. If not Universal what would be good to try in all three calibers.

Thanks

Would these loads be ok in a 1:14 twist barrel? Between the heavier boolit and slower velocity, I was under the impression they would not stabilize.

My 222 Contender and Savage 24 both love that Unique load of about 6 gr. In a rifle you might me a little over the limit though.

I will have to go back and see what twist they used for the data. Remember though that it is not an equal comparison between bullets and boolits of the same weight. Boolits tend to be shorted than bullets of the same weight and the length is the main determining factor of how much rpm or rps which ever you prefer is needed for stability.
In my 22 CCM with 1/14" twist and limited velocity of about 1800 fps tops I can shoot the NOE 62gn fngc a fairely long boolit quite accurately to 100 yards even though the holes on paper show distinct signs of tipping.
I don't know for sure how the two boolits from the Lyman data compare in length to the NOE boolit but I doubt they are longer and suspect they are slightly shorter.

Bullet weight is less important than bullet length for stability. Cast bullets are shorter for the same weight than jacketed bullets. Because of their greater rotational momentum they should also be a little more stable.

I have been shooting Sierra 63 grain jacketed Semi-points in my 14" twist .222 SAKO for 50 years though at higher velocity (+/- 2800 fps). Never had a stability problem.
