I just picked up a bottle of 4100 on close out. It would seem to be a useful powder, being a dense ball powder between AA9 and 2400 in speed, but can't find any data at all. Only factory data is a single charge wt for 1/2 oz .410.
Any Ideas ? Any powder comparisons for starting point? Usual suspect cals: .41, .44, .45LC, .357, .32.

Treat it as AA9 in burn speed. 13 grains in 357 with 150-165 grainer boolit for a test group. If that load pans out just about right for your preference in performance, then use 17.5 in 41 mag for another test. If that appears too hot for your taste using the 220-230 grainer, then move on up to 44 using 18.5 grains with the 250-265 grainer and that should be right on. Adjust the 357 and 41 mag accordingly. If that 4100 is a ball powder for sure, the odds are good it was developed in accord with the WC820 contracts in sight. There just have not been enough demand for 410 shotshells to warrent all the powder development in that speed range. ... felix

Thanks, about what I would have guessed, but didn't want to jump off without some idea. My interpetation is that back when AA bought Scott, they didn't promote/ support it since it was too similar to their own AA#9.

Yo Biggfoot, was that you on the Patterson tape?
Go to http://www.accuratearms.com/reloading.htm for their reloading data.Iffin' you select http://www.accuratepowder.com/loaddata_caliber.htm (Information selectable per caliber:) ,you'll get to select from their OLDER DATA that has some 4100 loads listed in the bigger bore handgun calibers.Beware that some of their older data has been replaced with Condensed/Complimentary Load Guide Version 3.2 (http://www.accuratepowder.com/data/AccurateGuideV3-2.pdf)
I'd contact them first to verify the 4100 data, http://www.accuratearms.com/ContactUs.htm

there own aa9 isnt there own. Its just surplus powder repackaged. At least thats what i originaly was. Im sure the scotts is the exact same thing that at the most just came from another lot. Hodgdon did the same with there h108 and wc820 surplus is probably what there all using.

No , wasn't me. I don't have as much hair on top of head.
I did try the links to AA. The link to "older data" apears to be gone. From curent site I can select loads by powder, but under 4100 there are no loads listed. Already have 2000 printing of #2 Manual, and 2001 handout manual.

AA Magnum Rifle Powder was an extruded surplus powder they had about 10-15 years ago.I bought some from Natchez/Spartan supply and use AA-3100 data for it.
Accurate Arms could give you more info.

Thank you. I will use the I M R tables as they seem to use less powder to get same speed as Hodgdon. Take 10% off and should be safe. BWB :castmine:

On www.lasc.us Todd Spotti on the "Ranging Shot" columns gives some details on AA 4100 & other powders. 13-5 and 14-7. :coffee:
