Nice! That should last you about a month.

Years ago, I shot in an indoor pistol league. Normally, I would police up as much brass as I could. One time I walked back to take a look at the backstop, and it looked like it was almost solid lead. I didn't cast back then, but once I saw all that lead, I knew I wanted some. Was never able to get any of it.

99% of this is from our clubs free first Friday of the month kids shoot . We supply the rifles and the ammo . Parents supply the kids . It has been about 2 years since I cleaned it . Marvin

It will be interesting to learn what percent return of usable lead you actually get. I scraped up several hundred pounds of spatter from a trap and as best I recall, there was a lot of crud that I never could reduce into solution with the lead.
I'm sure that all the clays that folks put up for targets did not help matters either.

If my memory is right the last time I did this .I yielded about 80 % . There is really no dirt and very little paper . But I did have to re melt the dross to get it . There is so much graphite and moly lube in this mix that it keeps a lot of the lead from melting well . It traps small pieces in the dross . I did notice that what I got out of the dross was close to pure compared to the 8-10 bhn that I got out of the first melt .If you take a real close look at the large pieces in the one bucket .You can see the real dark gray or almost black layers of lube that have a much higher melting point than the lead .Marvin

That sounds exactly like my experience. I have a few hundred pounds of lead heavy crud that I plan to one day put in a big brush pile fire. I could not get any more lead rendered from it in the cast iron pot even with wax flux.

Its heavy crumbly grey crud. I know there is a lot of lead left in it.

I had not thought about the moly and graphite being part of the problem. Maybe a long slow oxygen deficient cook will salvage a little more lead.

Here is a picture of some big chunks that I had last time . I use a small pot and the large pieces would not fit . So I tried to melt them down with my propane torch . But I was not getting any were till I started scraping the caked on lube away when it got hot so the flame could get the lead hot enough to melt . That was my clue as to what was happening . As far as the re melt . I first poured the powder over a window screen and sifted some of the fine powder out . Then I poured small amounts of the dross in the pot at a time so that it would get hot fast . Then I removed the powder from the top and kept adding to the pot in small amounts and repeating the process till I had enough to poor . I did keep a shield in front of me while adding to the pot for safety . All so the dust and fumes from the moly powder are not very healthy so use caution . GL Marvin
