As long as you are not too aggressive with your loads you can do it. Your gun will let you know if it doesn't like what you are feeding it.

You are running the chance of the magazine spring pushing bullets back into the cases.

You might play with it single shot but a full magazine would be a bad deal.

How so? If you are crimping the bullets into the case how do they get pushed back? The problem would be chambering, not pushing the bullet back into the case.

Loads will be light plinking loads and after the collet neck sizing I still would apply a crimp

You should be fine with that. Might even see some improved accuracy. My 30-30 had the microgroove rifling. It didn't care for 150 grain bullets at all but would shoot scary accurate with 170 grain bullets. Stupid me gave the gun to my Son-In-Law along with the Nikon UCC 44mm scope. I got over giving away the gun because I replaced it with a Guide Gun but I have not been able to find an equivalent scope. He loves it and has taken several deer with it. Good luck.

I figure if I want to shoot light plinking loads ( & a lot of them) It would be best to neck size to not over work the brass as much. I know a few guys do shoot the cases sized in this die in lever action. However I go back to the 1980s with memories of a heavy bench gun in .243 Win that had a slight out of round chamber. Bought the most expensive neck sizing die at that time and loaded 20 rounds which wouldn't chamber without indexing the case. I was shooting single shot then but It was still a PITA

I use Lee collet dies for both 30-30 and 35 Remington for my Marlin 336's and have no problems. I do crimp bullets and have no problems with bullets pushing back into the case. I do make sure that the fired cases will rechamber in my rifles before each reloading.

That last sentence is your key. I started loading with a Lee Loader - neck size - for two 30-30's. I did not know better and did not separate the brass. Both of these were 336 actions. Both of the ate the brass fired in the other! Now that I know better I'm surprised but then I just took it for granted.

Rotating the case and running it into the Lee collet sizer a second time will reduce the neck ID by almost a thousandth.

I know it's not supposed to be done for lever guns but I've Lee collet neck sized hunting loads for my 336 in .35 R with book max IMR 4064/200 gr. bullets since about 1990 with zero problems, excellant accuracy and deadly results; maybe I'm doing something wrong. ?? (And Lee's excellant FCD is the ONLY way to crimp anything in my shop.)

I have been using a Lee FCD for my 35 rem marlin 336 for 10+ years. Almost every caliber I load has a FCD. 1/2 moa at 100 yards with 200 gr corelokt. AA2230 powder
