Does anybody make a heavy 7mm mold, something in the 170gr range in a round nose to match the original load. Just wondering because I havent found one yet. I would even buy sombodys cast boolits if I had to in order to get some old guns shooting again

I use the RCBS 168 SP-GC in 7mm...not a RN profile, but it is like a RNF with a small flat at the tip. I also shoot the 130 Lee 7mm RN-GC...works nicely in my 700 Rem 7mm Mag.

Lyman makes a 287641 at 160g and a 287308 at 164g.

Cast of wheel weights, lubed and checked, my Lyman 287641 weigh 164 grains.

Midsouth has the 7 mm Soupcan in stock; it is about 135 to 140 gr. Only $18 for the double and $36 for the 6 cavity.

I have the RCBS 7mm-168 sp. I use a pretty soft alloy and mine are pretty heavy. I can't remember exactly but 177 gr comes to mind.

I do have an OLD mold from my Grand dad that drops a 175 grain Loverin style bullet ready to shoot. It is a Lyman or Ideal mold. I do not use it often as I have NO 7 MM Mausers. It does need a quicker twist than my 7-08 or 7-30 waters. I believe you will have to go custom for a heavy mold these days.

I have an old Ideal double cavity 150 grain Loverin. They are good to seat long to fill the military Mauser throats all the way to the riling. They deep seat in a modern SAMI chamber. Mine only cast a bore sized slug so no fat bullets. I could be easily talked out of it.

Mountain molds can make you about any custom mold you want.

I cast and reload for my Ruger M77 Hawkeye Compact rifle. I seem to recall that it had a different name when I bought it (Mountain rifle?). But its the same rifle, in 7mm-08.

Surveying the various 7mm molds available, I chose to avoid the Lee Precision offering, as it seemed just to light to me. I have two molds I use.

The first is the Lyman 2660405. It throws a 150 gr, bullet on paper. For me, using my Lyman #2 recipe (1/2 Linotype/1/2 wheel weights) the bullets are closer to 145.

The second is the RCBS 82018, 7mm-168-SP. As the name indicates, it throws a nominal 168 gr. bullet. But, oddly for me, using the same Lyman #2 recipe, the bullets are consistently heavier - 180 gr.

Heavier is fine for me, as I keep the fps of my ammunition on the conservative side. And I reload for deer hunting. The Ruger, surprisingly to me, does well with both cast bullets.

I don't have my log book handy. But I know that I have shot 2" 5 shot groups with both bullets at 75 yards - which is the distance I would be shooting here in the woods of Michigan.

The two powders that I have had the best luck with are H4895 and H4350. I use the Lee reloading manual's powder charge reduction quotients supplied to them by Hodgon. This process works for me. And I believe that the fps and pressure are within acceptable limits for the alloy.
