Well the paint on my Henry receiver has been slowly flaking off for some time now, and somewhere, sometime, I remember reading about peeling all the paint off and finishing it to keep the "stainless look". However I dont remember the process, so what do ya'll recommend to do this? Is the aluminum safe to leave raw or do I need to finish it somehow? It seems to me that, like aluminum wheels, over time it will become dull and grey. Thanks for all the info I have gleaned already from this site and much more to learn!

I don't think it is aluminum. It is an alloy. I would contact Henry a get info from them.

I believe it is "ZAMAK".

I just got a catalog from them. They list a brass finished engraved recvr cover with your name on it I wonder if it will fit a blue rifle.

Go to Rimfire Central and check under the Henry section. There were many threads on refinishing covers including polishing+clearcoat, chemically making a faux color case etc. Lots of Henry cover info there.

Technically it is a cover not the receiver which is steel.

There is a good bit of info at Rimfire Central! Including adding a saddle ring which seems to be fairly simple. Should be a fun project once I get my 1895G finished. Thanks all for the input!
