I have a friend with a S&W 500 mag that I would like to create a good mid-range with the C501-440-RF that could be used for bambi hunting and target.

I have Starline brass, Federal standard & CCI mag LR primers and HP38/231, Unique, Universal, AA#5, 2400 & 296/H110 on hand and several faster powders. I'm thinking 10+ of Unique might get me where I need to go but 2400 would be better choice and 296/H110 could not be downloaded enough safely.

I've seen load data for Unique and H110 that are interesting enough nothing for good old 2400, which I love with any Magnum wheel gun and cast.

Surely given the component shortage someone else has thought to put 2400 in this monster cartridge under cast.

Anyone have load data for this bullet with Unique, Universal or 2400. I'd love to pick up some AA#9 but I'm not paying $32 for 1Lb.

350 gn flat nose over
8 to 13 grains Unique. At 13 it starts to wake up. 8 is very mild.
13 grains BlueDot. Lower mid range. Very manageable.

Socal147 - which mold do you have? Since the owner of the gun was not convinced of the value of cast and reloading I got the cheapest thing I could find, a Lee 2 banger. I would think spending $3-4 a round for factory would be enough to sell him on the idea but.....

The monster boolits from this mold with my alloy tip the scales close to 450 without lube or a GC.... I was thinking of starting at 9 of Unique but I got afraid of going that light with such an unknown round.

Alliant lists 42 gr 2400 as Max for 350 gr, I have not used 2400 in the 500. If it were me, I would try about 25 gr 2400, should be what you are looking for.

I have a mountain mold 350 grainer
And a Lee REAL 325 grainer

You can have the REAL mold. I am not using it
