I put a interarms MarkX Mini-mauser in 6x45 on lay-a-way the other day. Does anybody have and tricks or tips on this cartridge??? I plan on getting a RCBS mold and shooting cast thru it. Thanks guys.

You'll want to know what the twist rate is before you buy a mold.
As long as it has a 1:10 inch twist rate on the rifling it'll shoot the big 95 grain bullet fine.
If it has a 1:12" twist Buffalo Arms still has a couple Lyman #245496. Mold had been discontinued but they have them. I have one and it shoots good. Or the Saeco 87 gr.
If it has a 1:14 twist NOE had a nice 75 grain bullet that is Ideal. However the Lyman and Saeco should work too. The 95 flat out will not run in 14 twist rifle. Been tried before. The 14 twist would give you the fastest shooter with cast though.

My dad has one built on a Remington 700. Its a good Cartridge, but I don't know that he has ever shot cast from it.

A 6x45 in an AR does fine with a 9 twist shooting a 76 gr. cast at 2,400 fps............................

I had one in AR15 heavy fluted shilen barrel 1-10 twist a real tack driver. It really liked 58 gr vmax and h222 powder. Shot almost anything up to 80 grain close to 1/2 some under. A very easy round to load and accurate. Sold it to a fellow forum member. AS everyone says, another one I wish I had never let go tks KEN

Is that with the boosted caseful of 870? I had some fun with a 6x45 AR once, here's the story: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?121224-6x45-now-a-coyote-rifle&highlight=6x45 A slower twist and more conventional rifling instead of 5R would have been helpful. Still have the dies and molds, maybe someday I'll get my 6mm/30-40 KragAI together, or maybe I'll get a more modern bolt gun. You'll enjoy yours I'm sure.

When did I first read about the 6mm/.223? Way back in the 70's, I think, in 'Guns and Ammo'. IIRC, they tried it both in 6mm, and in .257. Of course, there were just using j-words, but, they got decent velocity and accuracy out of both...... No reason you couldn't do that today.

Yes I don't think there is any trick needed. Load data is on the Hodgdon web site.
Dies are IIRC in the standard die price bracket. But since you stated you plan to get an RCBS mold. Which is the 95 grain bullet. A good one too I've heard. You do want to check what twist rate it is before ordering the mold. Since 6PPC is standard in 1:14 twist for the 60 and 70 grain match bullets. 14 twist was also pretty much standard in the 6 x 47 unless they were being built for long range. 87 grain bullets are a little iffy in a 14 twist. Greenhill formula shows the 87 grain Saeco I have sitting here as needing a 10.98 twist rate. But that's for jacketed bullets and cast stabilizes better. Still If it turns out a 14 twist the NOE was made for the PPC rifles in that twist and will and has worked great for shooters. I bought the last 80 grain MX3-245-EX Egan style tapered Loverin NOE had. It should be at my door tomorrow. It's .725" long the 75 grain is .625" long without gas checks. The 75 grain turns in a Greenhill formula result of 14.07 minimum twist rate when I add .015" length for a gas check. My Lyman 84 grain Loverin #245496 is .825" long with Greenhill of 10.65 min. twist rate.

Shooting my 243 AI's with 1:10" twist rate barrels. I have not found any accuracy over 2,000 fps. They shoot great up to then under 2,000 fps. If you end up with a 1:14 twist you should be able to go 2,200 or even 2,300 fps with a fast rifle powder like H-322. For data Lyman list data for a 6mm PPC with the Saeco 87 grain bullet. You'll need a Lyman or RCBS neck expander die.

My rifle is on a 700 Rem short with 1/10" twist. It shoots the RCBS design extremely well. I can look up some of the loads I have developed for it if wanted.
One load I use for coyote hunting uses the Speer 70gn TNT. It gives equal velocity to the listed loads for the 22/250 with the same bullet weight but with half the powder charge.
I like the cartridge. Recently I have been considering the 257 Kimber, a 25 cal cartridge in the 222 mag case. Since I am finding 204 Ruger cases lying about and the 204 Ruger is the 222 mag case the idea has become more appealing to me for a 257 Kimber.
