Stumbled upon a Lee 214 gr .429 double cavity mold at a gun swap meet today,In great shape, maybe never used.Cleaned it up good and cast some great looking boolits.I figured this would be a semi-light plinker alternative to the 240 gr gas checked magnum loads for my 4"model 29.There seems to be about next to nothing for load data for the 214 gr.I can assemble some low starting "safely engineered"loads, but if any one knows of anything printed, that would be greatly appreciated-thanks for reading.
(will be using 44 magnum brass)

Hmmm, i have that same mold. I've been planning on loading some light 44 mag and special for mrs. Lab because my 429421 and 44-245 kt loads are to much recoil for her. I'll keep following thisnthread as i too am curious.

i think you will find just what your looking for between 7 and 10 gr unique

when you don't have exact data say for 216 use the 225 data you won't generate any more pressure and unique is very safe to reduce

for the 215 cast data i had you didn't have any of the powders listed , but unique works well in reduced loads 7.8gr is the max for a 225gr cast boolit in 44 special and 11gr of unique is the max for the 225 gr cast boolit in 44mag these are from the alliant reloaders guide , you can double check them off the alliant powder web site loading info

at 7 to 7.5 gr of unique I think you will find a nice 44special like load from your 44mag and 44 mag brass at right around a 1000fps with that 214 mold

Thank you GREENCOUNTYPETE for the helpful information.I'll load a couple dozen with Unique this evening and wait for some tolerable weather to come around to shoot them at the range. Many thanks!

6.0 Red Dot in Magnum Brass makes for an accurate light load with a 215-ish grain 429-215. You can go up to 9.0 grains, but that defeats the purpose in my view. I have also used 5.0 grains Red Dot in 44 Special brass. WW-231 is also good with this boolit. 6.8 grains in Magnum brass or 5.8 in Special. For these purposes, I forgo gas checks.

Got 20 rounds put together with 8.5 gr of Unique to put down range, when the weather gets above a finger numbing temperature. Then I'll try some rounds with Red Dot,then W231.Thanks to all for your replies.
