My daughter shoots a .308 winch using a 125gr nosler BT and 42 gr H4895. I want to build her a practice load using cast bullets that shoots the same point of impact as her jacketed load. I have a Lee 150 and 170gr mold and a Ranch dog 165gr. Should I buy a Lee 130 gr mold to match the weight of the nosler?? How does one go about making a cast bullet load that mirrors the POI as the jacketed??
Thanks
Jeff

Tough to do in some rifles. Velocity changes elevation. Shooting a 125 at 2700 often impacts at a different elevation from a 150 cast at 1700.

My suggestion is to use a good cast load until it is time to change sights for the 125 BT. Scopes move easily enough.

Depends on what she is practicing for and her expected results. The RD didn't do well for me, you might try the 150 and see how she likes it.

Some guns will shoot pretty close with some loads. Some of my guns require a different front sight to go from jacketed to cast.
With most though I can have jacketed impacting a little high at 200 and cast will be a little low at 100. Both will be pretty close to the crosshairs at 50.

As has been said its best to just readjust between the two loads.

With my daughter who we could say is a bit recoil sensitive I let her practice with cast and let her hunt with jacketed without her actually shooting any beforehand. I'll do that when she's not around. Woody
