Just grabbed a Brazilian Mauser in CLOSE to stock form. The barrel is not original,it's now a 308 Winchester but it is a military contour and has had the original sights put on and the hand guard is there too.
Stock is pretty nasty but it'll clean up. The gentleman I got it from says its been test fired by the gunsmith that installed the barrel but other than that, it's never been fired.
This one will never see a copper condom.

Anywho, I can't see them dam sights for the life of me. That tiny little v notch may as well be a subatomic particle to these eyes. What are some good options that don't involve drilling and tapping? None of those goofy 'no gunsmithing' scope mounts either. I hate those.
I see a company called mojo makes a ghost ring rear. I imagine there ain't much by way of current manufacture but back in the day, there was a world of Mauser options. I don't have a problem tracking some older stuff down if I knew what to look for.

I have access to a decent pistol scope I may end up doing a scout set up.

Ideas?

S&K makes a good long eye relief mount for the m/1908 Brazilian. With your .308 barrel you probably have a short rifle configuration as opposed to the 29" long rifle version. The rear sight base should be the same but you'd need to verify with S&K that their mount will fit your version of the rear sight base.

Forget the Mojo. You need magnified glass sights. Trust me .

This is one I made for a 1908 Brazilian long rifle. The S&K mount is just a wee bit higher than this one. And this one was unique in that I used a large pin through the elevator holes to anchor it instead of screws. Scopes on these two rifles are NcStar 4x32 handgun. I found the NcStar 2-7x32 handgun scope to be superior for LER rifle use due to more generous eye relief adjustment.

This is a 1909 Argentine long rifle but is nearly identical to the 1908 Brazilian. I use ratty rifles for my shop mock-ups:).

Another of my m/1909 Argentine long rifles with a 30mm Tasco custom shop 7x scope.

Czech Persian 98/29 8mm with NcStar 2x22 scope. The eye relief with this scope was the most generous of any scope I've use so far but 2x sucks canal water for shooting. It was an experiment that cost very little.

Czech Persian 98/29 with NcStar 2-7x32 scope. This is very close to being my favorite Mauser.

If you weren't adverse to tapping two holes on the side of the receiver, I'd tell you to put a Lyman 48 Aperture sight on it. It will definitely clean up your fuzziness in the sights as well leave you an option to go to the glass scopes further down the line.

I have Mojo sights on my 1912 Steyr Chilean 7.62x51 Mauser, and it shoots great. I used a S&K mount on my byf '41 RC Mauser and a Leupold 2.5x28 scout scope, and did this with some Yugo M75 196gr sniper ammo at 100yds.
