February 2014 Photo topic:
Gunsmith Antics: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

After the nice compliment I got from Goodsteel on behalf of the staff (and I thank you), I thought of this topic. While this topic isn't necessarily geared toward castboolits, go ahead and post a photo of anything your gunsmith has done...BUT also feel free stretch this topic, If we try hard we can make some connection to cast boolits...example, some gunsmith modifications to make a gun more castboolit friendly, Or maybe one of our many Metal-smiths have made you some accessory or tool, making the loading of castboolits better, easier, quicker.

Mostly, I'm hoping some of our 'inhouse' gunsmiths (and metalsmiths) show off some of their work.

Feel free to comment in this Submission thread.
Have fun,
Jon

Are there any gunsmiths who aren't ugly?

As for guns, I am fortunate and unfortunate. Fortunate to not have any created by hacks, unfortunate to not have one made by an artist.

Tim, got any photos of a rainbow 4 x 4?

Not yet.
Patience my friend. Good things come to those who wait, and this will be worth the wait. I had your action in my hands just a few hours ago, and it's on my bench right now.

Hmmm, gunsmithing stuff huh?

My smith made this for me. 6.5mm BR, blue printed action, Shilen match stainless barrel & chamber, Leupold variable on a Ken Light mount, Dewey trigger & a bunch more.

That is my favorite too.

I don't think we can really credit Tim for that one, someone else did the hard part........

I can maybe understand 2 stuck, if I really wanted to be generous, perhaps three, but that is nearly unbelievable! What was the firearm involved? (AND they walk among us!)

Nice neat knurling on your trickler Tim. I love the look of brass.

And with nine it involved a reload!

At some point anyone but the totally oblivious would have noticed....

be gentle fellers, that was done by a member here. He was shooting mild loads without much recoil in the first place, and had on very good hearing protection. As I understand it, he was shooting at a small target and figured he was missing it completely. It wasn't until he had emptied two cylinders without a single hit that he knew something must be wrong.

All ended well though. I replaced his barrel, and he was back in business, good as new. Sometimes the stars align just right, and we make a real bad mistake, at which point, the Lord protects us more often than not.

I would think recoil would feel different. Not intended to insult a guy but I would expect something would say "hey, stop and look". The barrel sure is a good education tool.

Tim, does that beautiful trickles really count as gunsmithing? It is awesome and a true work of art but isn't a gun or gun part. Then again, is it for sale?

Clearly stated in the OP:

some accessory or tool, making the loading of castboolits better, easier, quicker.

Ok, the trickler clearly meets the criteria.

When do they go into production? Wait, I bet I can't afford one. Work like that isn't cheap. I'll have to make due with my Hornady trickler. Sigh.

Th barrel still takes the cake. A better example of multiple projectiles stuck couldn't be asked for. Makes people believe when they see it with their own eyes.

Is there a "Buy-It-Now" price on your trickler? :)

I'm quite sure you don't want to know what it would cost...

Gorgeous, for sure!

Mr Malcolm sure wins the prize this month!

I have a shotgun BBL that was curled by a relative when the fired a round behind a stuck wad and I bulged a Kart match BBL when I fired a round behind a stuck squib round but 9rounds....God certainly looks after some folks. Plus he helped out a scout and that Bubba fellow a couple of times.

Well done, sir.

BTW, congratulations on the golden boolit. I missed it in the original post.

IIRC, a battlefield pickup at Gettysburg had a record 21 minie balls and powder charges stacked. Others had lesser amounts. Guys compulsively loading but not firing.

Good steel: unabashedly stealing your design for the powder trickler.
Nice work. Looks damn classy.
