I've never recovered a boolit from a critter, they've all been pass throughs. Let's see what you have recovered what the specs on the boolit/load/range were...

Left to right

1- lee 452-200 RF from a 58 Rem. cyl full of FFFG. 700 fps. Distance 25' straight down. Clipped the backbone, cut a 6" slash in the shoulder blade and lodged about the knee. Pure lead. Knocked it down and the second shot thru the lungs closed the deal.

All other boolits are 1- WW to 2- pure with a little tin.

2- lee 452-255 RF. @ 970 fps. Went thru both shoulders of a coyote at about 12 feet. Boolit dug from ground behind it.

3- 429-424 with drilled HP from 44 spl. Distance about 15 yds. Deer was already dead. I rolled it on its belly with a hump of ground behind it and shot behind the shoulder. Dug the boolit from the ground. Not very deep.

4- 45 colt 452-424 with drilled HP. Velocity 1000 fps.Hit the deers shoulder on the point, clipped the backbone and was dug from the ground behind it.

5- 45 colt 452-424 with drilled HP. 1000 fps. 15 yds. Doe was standing at the bottom of a steep bank looking up the hill at me. Boolit hit halfway up the neck and started tumbling. Went down thru the chest cavity and was laying in the cavity when I cleaned her.

6- 452-424 hybrid cup point by Eric. Velocity 1070 fps, 45 colt. 30 yds. Smashed both shoulders and bulged the hide on the far side. This is the only time I've had this boolit not exit on a broadside deer.

7- 311041 with a small HP. 30-06 @ 1800 fps. Beyond 200 yds. My neighbor shot this deer. First shot knocked it down but it got back up. Second shot put it down for keeps. Both shots were high behind the shoulder. One straight thru and the other on an angle. The raking shot had about 20" of penatration and was lodged in the hide on the far side.

I cant recall where the other three came from. Possibly from game but most likely from test medium.

It's really difficult to recover heavy boolits from MO Whitetails. A little easer with HPs but most will exit. While I haven't shot one with cast straight on yet but I've had some long raking shots with the lee 452-255 RF and they have always come out. Woody

I didn't know how this worked. I posted the pic and edited the rest in. Guns and horses I kinda understand. Women and computers not so much!

I'm surprised a Kieth boolit didn't get full penetration at that velocity. Interesting.

It went the whole length of the deer!
