I haven't seen anyone else post a report, so I loaded up some of the boolits and headed to the range. Here are the specifics:
Alloy - ACWW
Lube - Speed Green (Bullshop's sprue plate lube with beeswax)
Gas Check - Hornady
Primer - Federal LR Magnum
Range - 50yds
Rest - Sand bags
Rifle - Swedish CG-63 target rifle with aperture rear sight and target globe front. The front sight was really too large for the target at 50 yds which probably contributed some to the horizontal spread. I paid more attention to my head position for the third group.

All powder charges were Unique. From left to right: 11.0gr, 11.5gr, and 12.0 gr, which is the same order as the targets appear. The corresponding average velocity was 1521, 1543, and 1586 fps.

I'm pretty happy! I would like to increase the velocity though to see where it falls off.

"Lube - Speed Green (Buckshot's sprue plate lube with beeswax) "

.............That would be Bullshops sprue lube :-).

I've gone to 1830 fps with the Kurtz and got decent results:

http://www.fototime.com/142E2E3B975802E/standard.jpg

This was a box stock M96. Issue sights and trigger @ 50 yards. The powder was surp WC872 ball. The bull is 5.25" across.

37.0grs = 1768 fps
38.0 grs = 1797 fps
39.0 grs = 1836 fps

Something the rifle didn't like about the 38 gr load, eh? So if you're thinking of going faster, thinking about a slower powder might also be in order.

Now that I know how to resize & post pics, here's a 13-shot target fired on 7/12/06 with the Lee 129gr. "Kurtz" CB. The load was 15gr. WC 820 + WLR primers + Win. brass.

Re: the target above, the rifle was my Mod. 96 "as issued" Swedish mauser with thumbwheel rear sight & 29" bbl. Abstracting from chronographed loads in other rifles with WC 820, the velocity was ~1,500fps.

As a side note , what is a good bullet mold for the 6.5x 55 swedish? I have a Husqvarna mauser in 6.5x55 that I would like to reload for , damn fine rifle , but the bullets that I get from wally world are not really what I am after. Thanks in advance.

mauser1959, Mold recommendations will largely depend on the diameter and condition of your rifle's bbl. Once you know that (You'll need to slug* the bore to determine that dimension.), mold recommendations become a bit easier. E.g., my 'as issued" Mod. 96 requires a CB that I can size to .267", thus ruling out Lyman's ~143gr. Loverin, which often casts a .266" bullet and which isn't particularly accurate in it.

*You slug the bore by cleaning & lubricating it first and then forcing a lubricated lead slug (egg shaped fishing sinker) through the bbl. from the breech. Some will drive it in (from the breech)only 6" - 8" and then drive it back out and then do the same from the muzzle. Search this site's archives for more information on this topic.

mauser1959,

The group buy mold that is the subject of this post was designed for the mil surp rifles. I fired the above group in a Swedish Mauser that was converted to a CG-63.

I do have another Swedish Mauser that is a standard version (M96-38). I haven't shot the boolit in it yet but intend to.

I got a extra mold off of one of the smart guys who buy more than one :Fire: for a buddy who has a 6.5 carcano. Where do you get gas checks and sizers from??

I hope to have him running on these boolits by spring time, though today its supposed to top 65deg it already feels like spring out

Wonderwolf,

Commercial gas checks are available from Hornady and I think Gatorchecks are also available. As for sizing dies, I got mine from Buckshot. Reasonable price and great quality.

Anybody else shooting this bullet over the winter months? I've been running it with 19gr of 2400 in my 6.5 Japanese getting pretty good accuracy at 50 yards with my carbine. Using brass made out of 22-250.

I've been shooting the s***e out of everyone down our 25yrd indoor range with this boolit GCed over 5 gns VV N310 with Lars 2500 lube.

Regular 1/4" groups along with some smaller.

Rifle is an M96 with aperture rear and fore sights.

25 yrd indoor with a rifle? Did you get powder burns on the target?

it is nice to see some people testing with 10 shot groups.

I'm guilty of the 3 shot groups, But its what I do when I'm still working up a load that will give me the best performance. Generally I start shooting 10 shot groups right after I hear "With 2 or 5 rounds LOAD"

I didn't have a Swede at the time this group buy was on. Now I do. If there was a spare mold out there somewhere I would like to have a chance to buy it!
