Lyman 31141 HP

Is this mold on the rare list? I understand it was a special order in the 60's. Anyone have one and how do you like it?

All HP molds sell fast nowdays. In the 50's & 60's LY would HP any mold they made for you if you wanted it done. Gianni

I have one. It's a DC, factory HP with one cavity a HP. This one has a more slender nose than do the regular 311041s. If you have a chance, get one. Shoots pretty well in the .30/30./beagle

I beleive they quit making that HP.. But if enough people called on them they could make more. They still make 311041 right? non HP.........Good question anytime i see one for sale it's gone before my eyes.

Recently had Buckshot HP one for me. Seems to shoot just a little better than the solid nose did, but that may because I just want it to be. Hope to try it on deer next year out of 30-30 and or 308. Good looking blt. There is just something about a HP cast boolit that makes them look classy. Yep, they are a bit more of a casting trial and tribulation, but the end result makes them worth it. Have 4 or 5 HP molds, and have had excellent results with all of them.

Randy... You can pretty well forget about trying to get folks to ask Lyman to do much of anything. They don't answer emails and pretty well disregard what the consumer wants.

Yeah, I agree, Lyman's not very customer oriented.

Making a HP and fitting the pin assy takes time which is money. Then there's the politically correctness of making a HP design bullet. Personally, I like em'./beagle

Yes... I am a fan of HP molds and bullets as well. The HP cavity moves the center of gravity back a tad and often these bullet give a little better accuracy.

I have a factory 311407 HP and a Buckshot 311291 HP and think they both are just "the berries". You lose nothing in quality when Buckshot does the work as opposed to when Lyman does the work. In fact, I think you gain quality.

Yes, I have the 31141 HP and like it very much. Mostly I've shot that bullet in my .30-30s. At 2000 fps it is a real bomb, and is probably best reserved for varmint hunting. At more moderate velocities (like 1600-1700 fps) it is a dandy hunting bullet. For a few details, see:

I have a couple old 357446 Ideal one holers. I'm thinking of sending one to Buckshot and having him HP one. I haven't seen a 357446 HP since the 60's. With the price of copper and lead what it is the 358156 may sit in storage for lack of gaschecks!

I've one I ordered in '68. It is one of my most, if not THE most, cherished moulds. Years back I shortened the HP stem as I'd found with softer maleable alloys the bullets expand better without the petals breaking off. A very accurate bullet in most any .30 cal rifle.
