We have a flat top wood stove we cook on. Any suggestions how to clean it up from splatters? I dimly remember my kin polishing the parlor stoves after winter use but I don't know with what. And right now we are burning this baby almost full tilt so can't clean it now!(at least I don't think so)

Do a google search for <wood stove polish> and you'll find lots of options.

I cook on mine. I don't 'clean' the stove, persay. Except for using a rag and soapy water. This old bachelor doesn't care what it looks like

My buddy (who has a SWMBO) uses 'stove black'

let the oils burn in, natural rust preventative... wipe off food particles with a wet rag. My trailer mounted BBQ pit was wood fired. Many would pressure wash them, touch up paint etc. I just kept it well oiled, I would buy a dozen cans of cheap cooking spray end of the summer and liberally coat the entire thing then bake it off at 300 for a few hours. Under a tarp for winter storage and I had very little rust to deal with in spring.

My pellet stove will get that treatment inside in spring. Give it a full cleaning, spray down the inside but don't light it to bake it in.
