Met a guy at the range today with what seemed to be a strange gun. It was a
Ruger Blackhawk in 10mm auto-38/40. He let me shoot it with some 10mms and it was very pleasant. I think I may have converted him to reloading, though. The box of shells was $43.95!!!:shock::shock:

Ya I had one of those. They were a special run made exclusively for Buckeye Shooters Supply. They had a odd flower like thing engraved in the top strap. I let a friend talk me out of it. Like another friend said, old too soon, smart too late.

That was a Buckeye Blackhawk. There were two different versions, one in 10mm/38-40 and the other in 32-20/.32 H&R. They were a special run for a distributor back in the '80s.
Both have much better fit and finish than the run of the mill Blackhawks and a steel griipframe.

It did have a flower thing on the top. Very nice gun and up until tonight had never been fired.

Wasn't the "flower" actually a "Buckeye"?

The buckeye is the nut. IIRC, the "flower" on the Ruger is actually a leaf cluster from the Buckeye tree, which, like the insignia on Troy Smith's football helmet, bears an odd similarity in appearance to a pot leaf...

Pretty nice gun. Wonder if they will ever make another run. I wouldn't have thought that the .32 H & R cylinder would be accurate with all that bullet jump but...wrong again..

My neighbor has a buckeye tree, and yes they flower in the spring. Its leaves really don't resemble a Mary Jane plant, at least not while on the tree. If you want something that looks like that you need a Cleome or some varieties of Castor Bean.
If I ever got a chance to get one of those Rugers with a Buckeye on it, I believe I woundn't hesitate if the price was right. One of those would be better than money in the bank--and when was the last time you got to shoot your CD?

They also made a 44 Mag / 44/40 convertable

I Had all 3 at one time
But got talked out of the 32 and 44 in a time of deep poorness
Had to sell someting to pay the morgage

Yeah johnch, I had to let go of my .44 Super Blackhawk, a MK10 mauser .30-06 with a PO Ackley bbl., a Sears M54 FN Mauser .30-06 and a number of others. I pretty much got more now than I had then but just different is all.

Lathesmith, Maybe Ohio Biuckeyes are different from Missouri Buckeyes?

SuperMag, I see your point, at least on those patches, drawings, and engravings of the leaves. I was thinking more of what the actual tree looks like, in person and in photos. MJ is not a woody-looking, tree-like plant--at least not the stuff I have seen. Here is a rather large (for MO, anyway)buckeye tree:

Oh, and I forgot this shot of a Cleome. This isn't going to fool anybody while it's blooming, but until the purple color appears the leaves do bear a resemblence to...another famous plant. This plant has an odd, skunk-like odor, but it is a good one for the flower garden around here.
