I've been coating boolits for my 45ACP with very good results, no leading & good groups. today I ran a short test to comparing them to greased boolits. load #1 195gr.SWC HP over 5.1gr. Titegroup CCI LP 1.250 OAL powder coated HF red crono. 831 fps. load#2 same but boolit lubed with RCBS 50-50 lub. crono.834, 3fps faster. Load #3, 230gr.RN - Lyman over 4.8gr titegroup CCI LP 1.265 OAL PC with HF red crono. 767fps. load #4 same but boolit lubed with RCBS 50-50 lub. crono.756, 11fps slower. No real difference.. this was a short test, 5 shot groups, the barrel was cleaned after each group Hope this was helpful. Don

It would be great to know exactly why. Are you sizing after the coating or before? Makes you wonder if the coating makes more pressure of is just slicker.

I size before coating, and again after. My .45LC shoots 4 fps slower with PC than with Carnauba Red, but it's a 275gr boolit going 750 fps. It isn't affected much at all.

My .357 was averaging 44 fps slower with PC than with CR. The .357 was still over 1300 with my backyard target loads, so I won't miss that 44 fps.
I'll give up that small speed in handguns for the benefits of PC. :-D

It would be great to know exactly why. Are you sizing after the coating or before? Makes you wonder if the coating makes more pressure of is just slicker. if The 230gr. was sized after coating, the 195gr. was sized before & after , it's an old oversize mold. coating before sizing damages the coating. if it's not sized first. The speeds are close ,& one boolit is faster PCed while the other is slower if the test was rerun they could be reversed. Both boolits have short bearing surfaces & were shot through a short, 5" barrel. longer boolits or barrels may differ

I found no real difference in the .38spl out of my Rossi lever gun. Lubed and PC ran about the same.

The powder coated bullets seem to shoot a little faster than the plain lead bullets with lube. I found this with a 45 ACP 200 grain SWC bullet.
The bullets were cast from the same mold.
The plain lubed bullets were lubed at the time of purchase a different type lube may give different results.

In 2 different tests I found PC'ed boolits faster . once by 11fps & the other 4 fps. 1 test with a different boolit they were 3fps slower. This was in a 45ACP it's within the normal SD Don't know if this is true in longer barrels
