Awesome video!

Notice the damage the rifling does to the jacketed bullets and also the .22LRs, especially the bases. Imagine what it does to our beloved cast bullets when they are pushed hard.........

Also in the expansion media shots note how much the cavitation increases as soon as the HP opens.

Fascinating video.

That's one heck of a camera to be able to run that slow.

Interesting the bullets that didn't hit point on but where tumbling. Sure does reinforce my belief of not using lino on steel targets, in some of the hits you can see the base of the bullet coming completely apart with only half of the bullet yet on target & that was jacketed. I can imagine what a high Sb boolit would do.

Thanks for posting this.

Rick: that camera is running FAST! To appear like motion, the movies run @ 24 Frames per minute (a bit more than 1 frame every 3 seconds) . This camera is recording and image every 1/1,000,00 second. Still, awesome stuff.

Yep, that's what I said . . . One heck of a camera!

We need a camera like that focused on the muzzle. It would be interesting to see how lube jettisons off the bullet and also to see what happens with a Dacron filler.

Sadly those cameras are very pricey. Anyone got a 100 K to invest?

I got a kick out the handgun bullet being intercepted by the shotgun pellet.

That interested me. The handgun bullet didn't upset even with a divet in it. I wonder, the, if the stories of bullets being deflected by twigs are true?

Sorry, but your time frame is off. Normal cameras run at 24 frames per SECOND. I think we'd notice if the frame only changed once every 3 seconds.

And that video was AWESOME! Thanks for sharing!

Thats a pretty sweet video. Woulda been cool to see some 12ga slugs and lead boolits.

Great video. I have seen some of that before but not all. Slow motion impacts never fails to impress me.

I'm with btroj ~ let's get someone to take videos of cast boolits leaving the muzzle. There must be someone available. There is one video of a paper patched boolut leaving the muzzle and the paper patch shedding so someone has some interest and equipment.

I wonder if the guys that do Time Warp would be interested. Oops... just checked and the show has been canceled. Must have been old episodes I saw recently. Oh well.

Maybe a group buy for video of various cast boolts being shot?

NTSC video (the US standard) is 30 frames a second, not 24.

While I was watching, I was thinking too bad the video wasn't done in color. some of those shots would be awesome!

I shoot a lot of WW boolits at steel at 100 yards and can't even find lead dust.
Remember the old cowboy movies where a guy is on a rock or next to a rock wall with boolits hitting right next to him? Never gets hurt.
Today's movies have a guy hiding behind drywall or a tree. Funny when my revolver boolits have penetrated 16" of seasoned oak. Ball ammo and tracers from a 30-06 will go through 2' of oak tree to stop with half the bullet sticking out so you can't hide behind a 1' tree. Now the .223 makes even smaller trees safe so it takes a thousand shots to kill an enemy.
I guess it is OK because you can carry more ammo.
That is a great video and how they timed everything to hit a boolit in flight with a pellet is amazing.

Not only damaged bases on boolits, but the center of the base bounces back before the edges. Base of BT are still very clean, good for accuracy. Lots of 'fins' on the PB cast. Very informative. Yes to sticky on the video. A must see.

Awesome video, I wish I had 100 grand to spend on one of those cameras, though I'd probably just spend it on guns and reloading supplies. Oh well.

If I had one of those cameras Id probably never leave the basement. I'd be fired from my job, wife and kids would leave me, etc. Y'all would have a steady supply of slo-mo boolit videos to watch on YouTube though.

What amazed me the most was the crack propagation in the glass targets. Even at 1 million frames per second it was almost instantaneous. Amazing.

I've seen several of these videos . The BB bullet impact looks like the 1 done w/an airsoft pellet impacting a 44 cal. The original vid took about 10 takes to get a centered impact. Utube is full of these, my favorite is w/golf balls from a mini cannon.

Great video, the setup must take forever.
At about 50 seconds it looks like a gas check made it through the target.
Also noticed some of the rifle bullets seem to have a pointed base,
never noticed any like that before.

I shoot a lot of WW boolits at steel at 100 yards and can't even find lead dust.
Remember the old cowboy movies where a guy is on a rock or next to a rock wall with boolits hitting right next to him? Never gets hurt.

IIRC early on they used pieces of chalk launched by a slingshot to get that effect. Later squib loads stuffed in a hole then plastered over and painted to match the rock surface.
Nowdays they use a paint ball gun and pellets loaded with a pyrotechnic mixture that detonates on impact. These use a metal thats also used in some anti-tank shells to burn out the inside of a tank and ignite ordnance.
