Does anyone recognize this lead weight and what is would have been used for? If so what would the alloy be? If I had to guess it would be pure if anything. Might be able to purchase some if it is worthwhile.

We have them at work it is just a 50# weight used for counter balance or as a standard. I never payed much mind to um. Figured they were cast iron.

We have an assortment of those in our hangar, 100lbs down to 25lbs. Steel shell outside and there is a hole on the side where you can see the lead inside. Ours are soft enough to scratch the exposed lead with a fingernail. Someday that 100lb one is going to disappear...

Scale weights

Seen them used at asphalt plants. Used for calibration

I saw various types of those over the years for scale calibration but the entire weight isn't lead, nor is the remainder a shell. The ones I saw had a small cavity drilled into the cast iron and filled with lead to make the weight precise. At the most a few ounces of lead to bring the weight up to a whole number and precisely 10lb, 25lb, 50lb, etc

Looks like one of the weights we used for testing large grain hopper scales.
