Just bought a new old stock single cavity Lyman mold for casting lead cores to swage. It came in a lot of other items I needed. It has the adjustable plug to change the weight of the core. I plan to sell it to someone who can use it as I don't swage and probably never will. Problem is that there's very little information about them and even less to base a value off of. Anybody want to help me with this? It's a 44 caliber, looks like it was never used, in the orange cardboard box. I'll try to post pictures later.

Thank you in advance!

Might be a good mold for a lead wire swage die.

I think this might be over kill for lead wire. In my case I swage wire to .188 diameter, do not need exact core weight. You are going to cut wire to length any way. Now swaging a lead 44 projectile, or core for a larger caliber I believe is where this will shine. I've been wrong before. YMMV.

44 cal cores are like .400, if it makes a 44 cal slug it's for a 45 or bigger.

Just measured the hole and it's around 0.395". So you cast a slug from pure Pb and then swage it to shape with a jacket? This is a foreign language to me. Heck, I've only been casting for a couple months now.

Teddie, I am interested in moving it, so maybe an auction is appropriate. Would anyone else be interested?

yep that's pretty much how it works.
you also have the option of running the cast core into a core swage die where you squeeze the excess lead out, making them all the same size/weight.
I have used one just like this to make 240 and 300 gr 44 mag half jacket bullets [and some gas checked slicks] and it works very well.

ALFloyd makes a die for swaging lead wire from 44 cores. That mold adjusted to maximun length would make the uniform .178 wire in longer lengths than the 240 grain bullets I now use to swage wire.

some time back a vendor here sold some "New, old stock" adjustable core molds, not sure if they were Lyman or maybe unmarked, but were made of Iron ? He had several and sold them for $30 each,,,they soldout quick, I bought two of them.
An auction is probably the way to go,
Good Luck,
Jon

I would be a buyer for $30 but not $50. I have seen lyman core molds with four to six cavities go for $50.
