If you are looking for 157 primers they are not made anymore .If you go to BP then you might find something that might work for you or ask some there for help http://www.ballisticproducts.com

Seems like I remember that the 157 is slightly smaller than the new 209's. Used to just force a 209 in with a strong press - used to use a MEC - than continue to use 209's for reloads til time to throw the hulls away.

What? Are these paper hulls? Sorry for my ignorance, I'm not a shotgun guy. :-D

Remington 57 size primers were discontinued roughly 30 years ago. If you want to use the hulls you may want to try decapping the fired 57 primer and then seat a fired 209 size primer to resize. Then decap the dead 209 and seat a live 209 size primer. Then find some older data for that particular hull and load with a mild primer at your discretion.

Or, for fun, you could load these with black powder, (or one of the black powder substitutes), using a 3 dram (82 grains) FFFg load with a .125 overpowder card and a couple of 1/4 inch felt spacer wads, 1 1/8th ounce of shot and fold crimp as usual. These would be not be suitable for autoloaders but would be fine in any other shotgun type. The fouling is limited to the barrel and can easily be cleaned out with water. Then the barrel can be dried and lubed before storage.

If you have an old single 12 that does not often get used often, this would be a wonderful way to bring it out of retirement.

Remington used the #57 size shotshell primer in paper hulls and later plastic shells into the early 1980s.

I've got a bunch of older Remington 10 and 16 gauge hulls that "used" the smaller diameter old primers . And I was able to pick up a few and used them . After that I did as someone else on here said and forced the newer 209's in them and they worked fine .

SP 12 , Peter's , were a asbestos wad base. Made a darn good heavy load. CCI 157 , Rem 57* , few more number from what I recall, magnum primer number.

The Remington small shotgun primers will be a tough to find. The last ones that I've seen were back sometime in 1985 IIRC. I'd just retire them myself.

When I first stated loading shotshells I had some *57 primer hulls. I must have bought some *57 primers at the time and used some of them. Moving my stuff around recently I found 5x 100 trays of *57 primers in the green and orange packaging. Problem is it will cost hazmat to ship them correct? Probably not worth it?

Could a guy just replace the battery cups on them instead of the whole primer like they used to with shotguns? Just a thought since I don't actually know what the primers in question look like, I will read up on them now!

I'm reloading a bunch of the old 12 and 20 guage shureshot hulls. I've got a few hundred primers left and don't feel like throwing them out. I figure that by the time I wear out those hulls, I'll be out of primers. There are still a lot of old timers like myself who still have a thousand or two left in the supply cabinet. Ask around. Someone probably has a bunch that they would GIVE you.
