My SKS slugs out to .312 do I have any hope of shooting cast in it?

Hello and thanks for the help up front. I just slugged my SKS and it came out to .312. If I go with a .313 size die am I going to be able to get a round to chamber? Looking at getting the 155g Lee mould for it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

SKS chambers are usually quite "generous" in size. You shouldn't have a problem with .313 sized bullets in yours. Mic the inside neck diameter of a fired case (service level load). If over .313 you are in business. I've used .314 sized cast in SKS's w/o problems.

Just FYI, my unaltered Lee mould for the 311-155-2R drops a bit oversize (.3142-.3144) from my 'hard' alloy (1 part lino to 4 parts Lyman #2) and, sized to .314, it chambered cleanly in a Russian (Tula '52) SKS. Wouldn't group worth dog ****, but chambered okay. On the other hand, even scoped, that particular SKS wouldn't group much better than 4"@100 with anything...cast or JB handloads, milsurp, or Wolf ball...which is why it no longer occupies space in my gun safe. The Lee 155, still sized to .314, does shoot very well in both my MN 91/30 and my '09 Argentine.

Shoot as cast. Lee 160 TL is what I use. .312

Not an SKS but my AK slugs at .3128. I shoot Lee CTL312-160-2R's with powder coat and gas checks sized to .314. No problems in the least.
I beagled the mold at first before going to GC's, it worked fine.

I've shot .315" boolits in my sks and AKM no problem chambering.

I have found that a hard alloy, at least 15BHN helps to get accuracy out of an SKS.

Thats all I shoot in my SKS.....You should have know problem:drinks: at all.
