Now that deer season is over, i am picking up where I left off.
Couple questions:
Any commerical, especially off-the-shelf, sources for
Bull barrel 20ga and 12ga SMOOTH bores?
I know the savage 220 and 210/212 and the NEF USH in 12ga are good in rifled bores. but any smoothies qualify for strength of action and barrel/muzzle thickness; making them a candidate for "bore rifle' performance loads?
thanks,

Hi C,
Not exactly a bull barrel, but the Benelli Nova (all barrel lengths) has a standard 3.5" chamber, so it can shoot at 14,000 psi all day long; I suppose any "magnum" shotgun will do the same, and allow you to run those higher pressures. I use my Nova to test most of my new loads, since it gives me a nice margin for error compared to my 2.75 and 3" guns. The barrel doesn't look especially heavy---in fact, my Nova Tactical is quite light compared to a similar Mossberg 500 or Rem 870. The chamber end is very heavy and thick, though, and the steel is obviously very high quality.

Anyone know how thick (diameter) the muzzle is on a 20ga Ultra Slug hunter heavy barrel?
I might have a bead on one, and want ot know if it will do for load testing. I did want a Savage 220, but... later.

C-,
my 24" USH 20ga measures approx. 0.875" at the muzzle so wall thickness is about .125". If you are thinking about Ed's bull barrel loads then from experience I can tell you the gun will handle them better than the shooter.:bigsmyl2:

Yup, that's what I am thinking...
Next "test thread" by me will include more 20ga results, if this trade goes through.
