I picked up a Ruger 1 in 303 Brit today. It has a 22 inch barrell with OAL of 38.5 inch. Condition is excellant or very close. Maybe better. Also came with rings. Haven't seen one before and I like the 303 round, so I already cast and load for it.

Don't know how good I did, but got it for $835.00 out the door.
Buddy wanted to check out a Taurus 45 Colt pump down in Pueblo and wanted company. He bought the Taurus and figured we might as well check out a couple other shops that were close. Saw the Ruger and could not resist.

Will try to get a couple of pics taken and posted.

Here are a couple of pics. Pay no attention to the background. Hope it is not too hard to see the gun. 9431094311

I'm totally jealous...never seen/handled one but have had a craving ever since I first read that Ruger had built a factory run of #1s in .303. If you happen to decide you don't like it for some reason...I know where it can find a good home.

I just bought that rifle's twin last week, no pics as it is still in Kalifornia 10 day gun jail. You did great on the price, mine was tagged at $1000 but after negotiations I paid $799 plus tax and state fees, which came to just under $900 out the door.

I don't have a mold (yet) but I'm sitting pretty fat with .303 virgin brass and a ton of jacketed bullets I have no interest in using anymore...very curious to hear what ends up working well in your rifle, bore dimensions etc.

Congrats!

I have a Martini Enfield carbine in 303 and a No.4 Mk1 so I am set up for reloading and casting.

This is the only 303 I have ever seen. If it shoots as well as it handles it should be alot of fun. Just finished mounting a Bushnell 1.5-4.5 on it. Will see how it does next time I get a chance to get up in the hills to shoot.

If you would like to try some cast, let me know and I will see what I have on hand and let you know.

I didn't know I wanted one untill I saw it and made the mistake of handling it.

BTW,
Last Sunday I got a good deal on a Savage 325 30-30 and a nice Ruger Single Six 3 screw unconverted. Have a good streak of luck lately.

I have seen it reported they have rather long throats so will be interested on your bullet seating.

Thanks for the offer Swamp, but I'm a ways off from actually shooting the rifle, don't even have glass picked out for it yet.

I would be interested in hearing about which of your molds produce good results with your rifle and what loads work out well in it, once you reach that point. I don't know the numbers offhand but the NOE and Accurate offerings based on what I think is an old Lyman bore riding design look intriguing.

I'm fascinated. I always wondered how a .commercial .303, not chambered for mud -caked ammo and not worn to hell and back, would shoot. I'm trying to get my Enfield sporter to group 2 minutes angle at 100 yards. Let us know.

Dang Swamp, when I come over to Denver to visit the kid, I just might have to call on you and have you take me to some shops. Your luck might rub off on me.

You did well on your purchase!!

rockrat,
Let me know when and I will see what I can do. Actualy, I blame my friend. I went along for the ride when he wanted to go down and check out a Taurus Lightening. Decided to check out a couple of shops that were close and got lucky.

Nice lookin piece. I always wanted a #1 in .45-70. ;) I have a .30-40 Krag single shot and like the ease of .308 caliber bullets a bit more myself. 8)

Beautiful rifle and wonderful caliber. Most conversations in the states usually revolves around 30-06, 308, etc. for hunting, but the great 303 is perfect for North American Medium Game. I push 150 gr .312 SST bullets around 2600 fps using IMR 4064. I use a 303 for most of my whitetail hunting (excluding BP) and don't regret it one bit. I'd love to find a rifle myself like that one you have there, truly!

Haven't done any shooting with it yet. I did get out my cast 303 loads and checked for chambering. With a 185gr. Lee RN and a COL of 2.963 they chamber with just a little push. No rifleing marks on boolit. Hopefully the weather will permit a run to the hills soon.

I think you did great on a fine rifle. If I saw one for that price it would be mine.

Finally got around to slugging mine. Near as I can tell the lands are .303 and the grooves .3145.
